Unit chairs at @baltsunguild & @penguild joined @MiddayWYPR to talk about their outlets' use of AI. AI can be a tool to support journalists, but many news organizations have deployed the technology in unethical ways without a human behind it, undermining the integrity of journalism. 🔊Listen here! wypr.org/show/midday/2026-02…

So cleveland.com boasts it now has reporters just collecting facts, turning the writing over to an "AI rewrite specialist." Last week @baltimoresun ran two politics stories written *entirely* by AI - not by humans. tinyurl.com/yaafhvd8 And says more of this to come.

How thorough was that “review” of the AI slop, anyway? The second sentence of the disclaimer calls Donald Trump the “former President.” The same error is duplicated in the lede. It does not take a journalist to find out who is serving as the president of the United States.
Sun management has once again disparaged our talented HUMAN reporters and their work, this time by filling more than half a page in today’s paper with AI slop.

Our 100%-AI-free analysis: If management decides to stop playing games, embraces its multi-generational union and signs a fair contract guaranteeing competitive wages + consistent raises, The Sun can attract talent and shine bright. Or they can keep doing this.

At this perilous time in our country, we need quality journalism more than ever. Using AI to fill a page and calling it "analysis" is the opposite of that.   The Baltimore Sun Guild is right to call this out. It’s a disservice to the Sun's readers and its reporters.

Our reporters tirelessly chase down real stories every day, despite management’s brazen attacks on our union and our rights as workers. But instead of investing in a healthier newsroom, mgmt is running these AI-generated “stories.” Demand #NewsNotSlop. actionnetwork.org/petitions/…

There are so many talented people at the Washington Post who are being laid off because of incompetent management. The Post deserves a steward who invests in quality journalism that serves the public.

The Washington-Baltimore News Guild unequivocally condemns the FBI search of @postguild member Hannah Natanson's home and seizure of her electronics by federal agents. Such actions represent a dangerous escalation that threatens press freedom and the fundamental role of journalists in holding power accountable. wbng.org/2026/01/14/wbng-con…
The Washington Post Guild is alarmed and appalled by federal law enforcement’s search and seizure of reporter Hannah Natanson’s property and personal devices. Hannah is a valued member of our union whose work covering the federal workforce has been essential (1/3)

We’ve filed two more unfair labor practice cases against @baltimoresun, which has been refusing bargaining meetings with us for over 4 months — instead choosing to threaten our members with new union-busting policies.

Let’s be clear: what’s happening isn’t normal, fair, respectful or what Baltimore deserves from our newspaper of record. We won’t be silenced.

Baltimore Sun owner David Smith’s -separate- company, Sinclair, released new financials this month showing that they’re close to making over $1 million off of their ties to The Sun in just 2025. And yet, The Sun refuses to even negotiate wages with its union employees.

The @baltimoresun’s latest move in its crusade to silence its union employees: a directive that bans any desk signage with messaging about collective bargaining, calling them “divisive.” We’ve shown solidarity this way for decades. They couldn’t be more transparent.

David Smith and Armstrong Williams’ idea of a contract with union @baltimoresun staff: • Gut steps, seniority and severance. • Eliminate other long-held protections against unfair discipline and layoffs. • Give management free rein. • Silence staff from speaking out.

We stand in solidarity with Karen Attiah and our siblings at the @PostGuild. Journalists should not fear reprisal — especially from their employer — for doing their jobs. Write the Post’s opinions editor Adam O’Neal and publisher Will Lewis: actionnetwork.org/letters/wa…
We remain concerned about the wrongful firing of Karen Attiah and continued cuts to the Opinions sections, including layoffs of five Guild members. We asked Post leaders to affirm their commitment to free speech and due process. Now you can, too: actionnetwork.org/letters/wa… 🧵

Unfortunately, this attack on workers’ rights feels all too familiar. From the unjust firing of a reporter who spoke up, to the union gag rule that The Sun wants to force into our contract, we’ve seen too many attempts by management to erode our core values. We’ll keep fighting.
