As a very long time user of BBEdit, I still proudly wear my T-shirts!

I just had to write a little unix-y program to process a directory of files based on their names. I created a new text file in @bbedit and typed “#!/usr/bin/ruby”. It’s wonderful to have great tools.

Me and @bbedit spending quality time together this month for #NaNoWriMo. I like using a text editor for writing. Fewer distractions, better searches, no styling - just words. For now though - better feed the #cats before they eat me. And #coffee. Then #writing

We are excited to announce a new integration: @BBEdit! With Kaleidoscope 3.7.1, you can use the BBEdit Script menu to show you changes in an unsaved document.

I believe that the multi file search and replace function in @bbedit saved me 2 hours of work today. #PaysForItself

1/8 On Mature Software We all like new, exciting things. A new take on code editors, todo lists, note takers. I, too, like to play with new apps and tools. But I think it's worth recognizing that 9 times out of 10 the "new" isn't as good as the "old".

One of the many little joys of using @bbedit is having a popup table of contents to a codebase FAQ written with #markdown This thought brought to you by the impulse to take a moment to celebrate a tool which makes your life easier.

Want to copy stuff typed in a #Python shell into a text file & remove everything but the code? Use this find/replace regex: Find: (?:^(?:(?:>>> |\.\.\. )([^\n]+\n))|[^\n]+\s+) Replace: \1 (some IDEs use $1 for replacement) This gets rid of >>>, ... and any shell output.

1/5: How to use @BBEdit to graphically diff an entire git repo in one Mac window instead of a file at a time: Add the following to your git config: diff.guitool=bbdiff difftool.bbdiff.path=/usr/local/bin difftool.bbdiff.cmd=bbdiff --wait --resume $LOCAL $REMOTE

Did you know @BBEdit cost $99 in 1996 - that would be $184 today. Today version 14 only costs $49.99 - a bargain!

I used BBEdit to design our band website in ~1997 & today to extract headline, newspaper name, and date for ~2200 articles on Great Lakes Areas of Concern. It’s weird to think of a piece of software as a comforting, consistent presence, but here we are. What a rock-solid app.

Highly recommend BBEdit to Mac users. I use it to edit code sometimes, but mostly I just use it to WRITE. It never crashes, saves every keystroke (whether or not I’ve saved the doc) and has tons of neat tools for changing case, prefixing/suffixing lines, find-and-replace, etc.
