I was skeptical of the war from the start, but PEG’s point includes a broader black pill. I don’t think there is margin in contemporary American politics for any decision that is strategically necessary but politically costly. This is clearly relevant to deficit/debt matters, where neither party has an incentive to pursue the harsh reforms needed to avert continued fiscal/monetary degradation. There may be paths out if we can achieve high AI-enabled growth, but these remain speculative, and themselves subject to political risks given the unpopularity of Silicon Valley/AI/data centers.
People should be able to take the L. I supported the war. I trusted the plan and thought (still do) that Iran is an unacceptable threat to the Western way of life. I still trust President Trump's clear belief that it was necessary at the time to do something like it to prevent a nuclear Iran, which seems to have been accomplished, at least for now. But it's also clear that it's been a political disaster, that it's the main cause of the Midterms defeat, and that it should be wound down so that we can save America from Islamo-communism.

This is a superb time to support your local classical Christian school and homeschool co-ops that wish to return to biblical authority and Western tradition. This is covenantal work, and we must be prepared to play the long game.

Much scapegoating for Iran is being pointed at SecWar Pete Hegseth in DC from members of the establishment that don't want themselves to fall under scrutiny Couple points: - No one has backed President Trump more loyally than Pete since Day 1 - Finding a new SecWar means rushing to get someone in the lame duck session OR needing to go through a Democrat Senate to confirm a new SecWar - Pete is popular with the rank and file of the military and his anti-DEI warrior ethos policies have led to a big recruiting surge for the US military, blowing out quotas Pete is a Patriot

If I were nearby I’d be attending this. Very important subject to understand and I’m sure Stephen will give it a good treatment.
Next week, I'll be at Texas A&M.

It’s hard for me to believe how bad this is… all of it would’ve been news to Luther to say nothing of Zwingli.

“Every high civilization decays by forgetting obvious things.” (Chesterton) Such as: -God is our Father, non non-binary. -It's an abomination to allow men to go into girls' bathrooms. -Saying "biological" before someone's sex is stupid, redundant, and part of the problem. -Sticking scissors into a womb to dismember a baby is an unconscionable evil. -Politicians who passionately support the right to the above practice great wickednesss, and no consistent Christian can support them. -Socialism is societal suicide. Every time. -It really is Christ or chaos. -The reason the US Navy was formed was to combat Mohammedan pirates who were seizing our ships, and choking our economy. They did so explicitly under orders of the Quran and said they'd continue to, until all were converted or enslaved. Ergo, supporting them to lead our country is silly. 42 years ago tonight, a boy named Daniel Larusso was brutally attacked by a gang of masked thugs. Two months and one illegal crane kick later, young Daniel would exact his revenge with the help of a maintenance man from Okinawa. Please remember the true meaning of Halloween.

An explainer: The @NavyFB 3 year cycle- Because, unlike college football teams generally right now, who buy teams year to year. Navy cannot use the transfer portal. So we have to develop teams. Developing teams takes 2 years. Which means we have a rough season followed by a good season and then an amazing season. Our team is mostly Sophomores and Juniors this year. They are playing like sophomores. Lots of talent, bad follow through and stupid mistakes. Next year, we’ll likely win ten games and blow a couple we shouldn’t. The year after, depending on who we have in the QB stable who’s a freshman this year. We will be unbelievable the third year like last year. Despite the 2nd half. Play calling was more disciplined. Play was more disciplined. We’re maturing. I think we have a lot to look forward to the rest of the season and in the next couple of years for the Goats. Love this program. #GoNavy #RollGoats

The Bible says that civil rulers should praise what is good (1 Peter 2:14). One administration celebrated vile affections and sexual insanity on Easter. The current administration is celebrating the Protestant Reformation, the Sacred Scriptures, and salvation by grace through faith.

First Quarter is a win. Need to finish drives. But if the goal is to eat clock. Keep everything in front of the defense and be in striking distance or ahead in the 4th, first quarter accomplished that. #RollGoats #ReformationDay - Beat the Papists.

I love prequel memes. And I’ve been enjoying the sort of Zoomer take on the Star Wars prequels floating around X for the last couple of days. A lot of these takes hinge on the idea of Anakin as representative of the white male experience in a progressive culture, where the good guys are actually the bad guys, and the bad guys are the good guys. And there is a good deal of truth to that. But I think there’s something important being overlooked, something that is central to how I read the story. I see the first six Star Wars movies as essentially being about fatherhood. Anakin has no father. He comes from a single-parent home. Qui-Gon Jinn takes an interest in Anakin as a person. He is a benevolent fatherly presence who advocates for Anakin, sees his potential, and wants to protect and guide him. And part of that protection is even from the Jedi Order itself, since Qui-Gon disagrees with some of its ways. The great tragedy of that first movie is that Qui-Gon, Anakin’s only true father figure, dies. Anakin is left to be raised by a cold Jedi Order and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who functions more like an older brother. Obi-Wan loves Anakin, but he is no father. Without fatherly guidance and protection, Anakin struggles to enter the world of men and is used by two sides: a cold, detached Jedi Order and a manipulative false father in Palpatine. And just as Anakin becomes the one thing he never had, a father, he loses much of his humanity, his wife, and his family. That is the central tragedy of the prequels. Now consider the original trilogy. You have a son who is raised by a father figure in Uncle Owen and eventually finds himself under the care of a much older and more fatherly Obi-Wan. So, Luke was actually fathered, unlike Anakin. The series slowly turns into Luke’s quest to see his father redeemed. In the end, Luke is unwilling to kill his father. And Anakin finds his redemption by killing his own false father to rescue his son. That is the triumph of the original trilogy: a son pulling his father back from the darkness by becoming the man his father once desired to be. And that father, even at the very end of his life, being awakened and doing what it takes to give his son a future. That’s how I read Star Wars. The tragedy of fatherlessness, and the triumph of sonship and fatherhood.
