increasingly convinced that the real “emotional work” is sobbing fully without any resistance to it, it’s not sad at all, there’s no suffering, just removal. sobbing isn’t necessarily about sadness, it’s to muscle tension what pooping is to the gut
You have to let these things out sometimes or else they’ll fester but then you straighten your hair for the first time in years, realize you look like a young Cher, and remember that you don’t have the will for weakness anymore because there’s too much more out there for you

You get older and nothing phases you. We live in a fucked up world with fucked up people. You think something is impossible until it happens. You think “that’ll never happen to me” and then it does. Someone lies someone cheats someone steals someone dies. Just like that. The soul separates from the body. It’s over. A daunting fact but it’s a fact. You start to learn how to roll with the punches. When the impossible happens you pivot. When you don’t recognize the person in the mirror, you face them. You accept what you can’t change. You fight like hell to change the rest. Who are you going to be now? What would love do now? Your options remain the same. Sink or swim. Fear or love. Don’t or do. The middle is worse than death. If you’re not all in, you’re out. In or out.

Around 1500, Hieronymus Bosch painted sheet music on a sinner's bare butt in hell. 500 years later, someone transcribed and performed it. Now you can hear the original butt song from hell.
