An indirect but consequential aspect of throwing AI at healthcare: it permits making explicit considerations in decisions previously implicit and opaque. For example: "Why did you bill more for patient A compared to patient B?" The answers can inform policy (and/or motivate some LLM builders to steer/align them to obfuscating explanations).
one conversation we should be having more, especially in healthcare: is this an AI problem or a policy problem?
a big challenge in American healthcare stems from the reality that our healthcare strategy changes with every administration
throwing AI at problems that are well-addressed by policy innovation (e.g., AI for payer-provider RCM war) feels like a gross misallocation of resources
solution sets are rarely zero sum – in truth, most problems will require policy, tech, and human interventions, but it's worth asking ourselves whether AI is the best solve when we have a multitude of options

At the edge of his woodland, Badger paused to watch the evening light as it danced with the trees.
Recently he’d found himself searching for a new way of viewing the world, thinking of a forgotten way of being.
Whatever he was looking for, moments like this brought him closer.

This is a big deal.
People with chronic disease(s) pay a huge time “tax” for routine monitoring/care.
Adding 2 hours every 3 months for *one* of my autoimmune conditions (& unnecessarily so) was making me really frustrated, which is why this made me so jazzed today.

There is a new article on exocrine/endocrine aspects of type 1 diabetes from @BBruggMD that just came out that really highlights this, too:
"Clinically, individuals with T1D should be evaluated for EPI when they present with concerning [GI] symptoms"

HCP mentions a relative has T1D and ongoing stomach issues.
Me, biting my tongue.
HCP: I see you have..what is it...exocrine something?
Me: exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Yes, it's prevalent in PWD. Let me give you some information to give her!

Friends w/diabetes:
My goal is to have EPI rattling around in the back of your brain so that if one day you realize you have some GI symptoms, you and/or your endo or other doctors (#GITwitter) will think to screen for EPI alongside celiac.
Why? Because: bit.ly/46OpN4J
