Watching Elon Musk this week has been a fascinating character study in the saviour complex of Western tech billionaires.
They arrive in your country selling you the future. Welcome them, and you’re a country that wants progress. Make them wait, and suddenly your people are victims who need rescuing from their own institutions by the chosen one.
It’s a pattern. When Thai rescuers didn’t use the mini-submarine Musk sent for the trapped boys, and diver Vernon Unsworth called the idea impractical, Musk attacked him as the “pedo guy.”
When Brazil’s Supreme Court ordered X to comply with its rulings, Musk called the judge a “dictator.”
The script rarely changes. Only the country does.
The colonial mindset isn’t always about wanting to rule a country. Sometimes it’s the assumption that you arrive as its saviour, and if the country doesn’t immediately recognise you as one, something must be wrong with the country.

The scooter hasn’t encountered any significant issues; only minor ones that Hyperservice has been able to resolve effectively.
The gradual improvement in the service, though slow, is greatly appreciated.

Loving the dual-chemistry play too: NMC 46200 for max performance/range, and the bigger 46100 LFP variant perfectly tuned for cost, safety, and heat tolerance while the extra volume keeps real-world range competitive.
True drop-in gens from 4680 onward mean compounding gains (20%+ range, lower costs) hit vehicles almost instantly. Gigafactory flywheel is spinning — proud to see this level of vertical integration from an Indian company.

Super awesome job by Ola. In large cylindrical cells like Ola’s latest 46200, a traditional small metal tab for current collection becomes a bottleneck due to high current density & heat generation.
Ola’s Bharat Cells use a tabless electrode design. Instead of a single small tab, the entire edge of the electrode foil acts as the current collector. This shortens the electron path, reduces internal resistance, & significantly improves heat dissipation & fast-charging performance.
Ola is also running a dual-chemistry strategy in the 46series platform:
- NMC chemistry in the 46200 for higher energy density and performance.
- LFP chemistry (also in 46200 format) optimized for India’s hot climate & cost-sensitive segments.
The larger cell diameter helps LFP overcome its lower energy density by increasing volume, making the more affordable chemistry competitive in real-world range & efficiency.
4680 -> 46100 -> 46120 -> 46160 -> 46200. Both NMC and LFP.
We now have 5 gens of Bharat Cells advancing in our pipeline. Each generation improves energy density, cost structure & performance; and because they are true drop in replacements, the benefits flow straight into our vehicles with almost 0 vehicle R&D or redesign.
Result with every next gen cell:
- 20%+ higher vehicle range
- Lower prices as costs come down
- Faster iteration and compounding product leadership
With 4680 already on Indian roads (millions of kms logged) and 46100 LFP ready for vehicles next quarter, our Gigafactory flywheel is now spinning hard.
We're just entering the upward compounding cycle of engineering and manufacturing leadership by @OlaElectric!
Not a secret, we had shown this full roadmap on 15th Aug 25 at Sankalp!

Our LFP cell is now ready!🔋
Gigafactory ramp is going really well. 1000s of vehicles powered by our 4680 cells are already on roads, clocking many millions kms in real-world conditions. Proud of the team.
Excited to announce: Our LFP cell is ready for prime time! This is our 46100 format cell — bigger than our current NMC cell. It will start entering our products from next quarter.
LFP is a big unlock:
- Further reduction in vehicle cost
- Faster acceleration of EV adoption
- Foundation for all battery storage products
- Next major phase of Gigafactory scale-up
In our End ICE Age journey, we’ve focused on removing barriers to EV adoption: Customer offers to make EVs more affordable. Service guarantees, buyback for confidence. Passing on the PLI benefit on our motorbikes — again to drive affordability.
End ICE Age will be built not just with vehicles, but with the full energy stack and we're building it!

✍️ New article: Battery costs have declined by 99% in the last three decades, making electrified transport a reality—
Over 20 million electric cars were sold globally in 2025 — some for as little as $10,000. Even just two decades ago, that would have been impossible.
The reason it's possible now? Batteries have gotten *much* cheaper.
In 1991, lithium-ion battery cells cost around $9,200 per kilowatt-hour. By 2024, that had fallen to just $78 — a decline of more than 99%. You can see this in the chart.
To put that in perspective: the battery cells in a standard electric car today cost around $5,000. In 1991, those same cells would have cost nearly $600,000.
There was no single breakthrough behind this. Batteries follow a “learning curve”: as cumulative production grows, thousands of small improvements in chemistry, manufacturing, and supply chains drive prices down.
Since 1998, every time global cumulative battery production doubled, the price dropped by roughly 19%.
Early progress was driven by consumer electronics — phones and laptops — before the technology became viable for cars, buses, and larger energy storage.
Energy density has also more than tripled since the 1990s, meaning batteries can now store far more energy for their volume.
The half-a-million-dollar battery was never going to transform transport. The $5,000 battery is.

ALT Line chart of representative lithium-ion battery cell prices in US dollars per kilowatt-hour from 1991 to 2024, where prices fall steeply, declining about 99% from roughly $9,200 per kilowatt-hour in 1991 to about $78 per kilowatt-hour in 2024.
