UPDATE on the case of six Charlotte officers investigated over racist texts allegedly targeting Black residents: Three officers have resigned, and a chain-of-command review board unanimously recommended termination for the other three.
Resignation should not be the end of accountability.
Transparency must be part of what comes next.
The public deserves a thorough review of whether bias affected these officers’ stops, searches, arrests, or use of force. That includes examining their records and any prior complaints to determine whether residents’ rights were violated.
The department must also take concrete steps to prevent this from happening again, including stronger oversight and meaningful anti-bias training with ongoing evaluation. Training alone cannot replace consequences when misconduct is established.
Charlotte deserves clear answers about what happened, what action is taken, and how the department will protect residents’ rights moving forward.

Today, George Floyd would have turned 53.
We honor his life not only by remembering how it was taken, but by remembering that he deserved to keep living.
He deserved more birthdays. His family deserved more time.
His life mattered before the world knew his name.
Honoring George means carrying the demand for justice forward, for his family and for every family still fighting for accountability.
Rest in power, George Floyd.
Happy International Day of the Girl!
I’m excited to share that the @GirlsAlliance will be providing more than $1 million to 25 incredible grassroots organizations supporting girls in 15 different countries.

🚨 BREAKING: MARYLAND RESIDENTS CAN NOW SUE ICE AGENTS OVER CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS!
⚖️ Maryland’s No Kings Act took effect October 1, opening a new legal pathway for people whose federally protected constitutional rights are violated by individuals acting under color of law.
🔥 WHAT THIS MEANS:
✅ A potential path to hold federal agents accountable for constitutional violations.
✅ The ability to seek damages and other legal remedies when the law applies.
✅ A new legal battle over the limits of state power and federal law enforcement.
🇺🇸 NO ONE’S BADGE SHOULD PUT THEM ABOVE THE LAW.
Important: Lawsuits are not automatic victories. Legal defenses, immunity claims, and challenges to the law’s constitutionality may affect individual cases.
📢 Civil rights. Constitutional protections. Government accountability.

NABJ proudly recognizes Banned Books Week, an annual campaign led by the American Library Association that celebrates the freedom to read and highlights the implications of censorship efforts in public schools and libraries. Learn more at bannedbooksweek.org
#BannedBooksWeek Sometimes what the law deems should be banned might actually be what you need to listen to. Sometimes law might actually be corrupt law. Think rather than be a blind sheep. Slavery was legal. Internment camps were legal. Some lighter races getting away with killing their child was approved by the law. The law overly imprisons innocent black males. Not every law is right and not every lawyer is moral. Don't be outside of objective reality and know what is truly right and wrong, but follow the law right. #Care #Advice #GoodReads #BookList #UseYourVoiceNotSilence
In honor of Banned Books Week, we asked our team: What are your favorite banned books? 📚
As book challenges hit record levels, we’re celebrating the Black and LGBTQ+ stories that challenge us and teach us.
Read banned books. Pass them on. Until justice is real.
