I’m so pleased to share that my novel releases today, bringing to fruition ten years of writing into the morning, agonizing over a single word for HOURS at a time, and never knowing a moment where this story wasn’t quietly shaping my thoughts.
To everyone who supported me along the way, I’m grateful. I share with you my heart, in rectangular form and with the words “The Sand Diamond” written on it. 🙏💙🌊

Tarps are akimbo &water is seeping where my flashing should be
But oh joy, the chance to start reading @blsamaddar

The duality of desire, my love, is this...
the body can desire you carnally...
and when that desire dies,
so does the hunger of the flesh.
But.. I don't know how to
put into words the desire
that burns in a soul...
not for a body... not for a kiss...
not for any kind of physical touch...
but for the intersection
of your soul with mine...
For the thought of you
carved into my brain...
For the grip of your heart
on my memory, the same
way mine grips yours...
Because the burning desire born
of the body cannot compare to
the never ending desire of
a soul that wants to merge
with yours, as though nothing
in existence could matter
more than you...
And when the body decays
and disappears beneath the
weight of death... when the hands
that once reached for you can no
longer touch you, and the lips that
once whispered your name have
long since fallen silent, I want to
believe that something of me will remain...
The desire... the longing...
the ache of you... carried somewhere within my soul, beyond the reach
of time... into whatever part of
the universe might one day bring
us together again.

a presence felt in the heart
these ghosts I honor

that glows forever

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁
The manuscript had no title.
No author.
No date.
Its pages were brittle enough to crumble beneath my fingers, and much of the writing had faded beyond recognition.
Only one passage remained perfectly legible.
𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥.
𝘞𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘦𝘺𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮.
𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘯.
𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘦𝘪𝘭 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯.
I read the passage twice.
Then continued.
𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴.
𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴.
𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘥.
𝘋𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮.
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴.
My hands went cold.
There was one final sentence.
It had been written in a different hand.
Dark ink.
Much newer than the rest.
𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦, 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘬𝘺.
I closed the manuscript.
Outside my window, the night was perfectly still.
And somewhere above the clouds,
something knocked.

Measure devotion
In time spent at the task
Given with free will
For the sake of the need
She is worth every blister
Every cut as it bleeds
Time spent more than motion
Meaning offered in feeling
Tied up in each deed

The only cosmic horror I know,
is to wake up one fine morning,
realizing everything around me has changed.
I shudder to think of a day,
when life forces you to forget me,
I can't even begin to fathom it.
The bravery I need to possess,
to even imagine a world like that,
I don't know if I have it in me.
Every now and then,
I am dragged through this nightmare,
and then I end up waking in cold sweat.

Wings unfurled
Out of the bird cage
A tiny heart, yearned for freedom that has come Morning light, a mocking dream
The seeds pecked, the water sipped
Bitter tokens to a stifled lip
A latch unlatched
Destiny dispatched
Neck stretched, testing the flight
All horizons, are the same

it was hard to interpret
—the language familiar
but the look on your face
said the meaning's peculiar
we'd said the same words
they pecked at the ground
flew off in a whirl
and I was lost in the sound
when we were in tune
we said we'd always stay open
but now the birds stole our words
and the promise we'd spoken
all that's left is the weight
of silence unbroken

ALT A cyanotype-style, long-exposure image shows a wide spiral of birds lifting into the air from a clearing. Their motion forms a dissolving, circular pattern, with soft blur and ghostlike trails suggesting movement over time. The deep blue tones and high contrast give the scene a dreamlike, atmospheric quality, as if sound and meaning are drifting away. Image created by Karen Casey-Smith/Dall-E ©2026

The Sand Diamond is one of those rare books that feels honest all the way through. It doesn’t tidy up the messiness of family or memory, yet it leaves you with a sense of quiet grace. A beautiful, unforgettable story that stays with you long after the final page.
Loved it! Bethany 💕💖💕
