Hear BCC Co-Head Research Strategy, Dr Jim Whittle @whittlejim talking about our pioneering clinical trial platform Brain POP on Healthy Living.
Laboratory Head @wehi_research & Medical Oncologist @petermaccancercentre Jim shares how Brain POP is delivering groundbreaking insights into how a new drug can slow the growth of low-grade gliomas (LGG) - a type of brain cancer that mostly affects young adults.

Excited to see the updated results from INDIGO confirming sustained benefit of mIDH inhibition for 1st line treatment in patients with G2 gliomas. Reduced seizure frequency aligns with our findings that mIDH inhibition modulates the glioma electrical microenvironment! 👇

Nature Medicine – Perioperative IDH inhibition in IDH-mutant glioma nature.com/articles/s41591-0…
Patients underwent a pre-treatment biopsy followed by one cycle of treatment and surgical resection of tumour.
We coordinated multi-omic analyses to interrogate drug activity in LGG, focusing on transcriptomic and metabolomic impacts of the drug, using the paired samples. 3/8

Today we’re excited to share the findings from the first clinical trial, mIDH inhibitor safusidenib in LGG, out today in Nature Medicine.

A central question in neuro-oncology is whether therapies penetrate the tumour and exert a biological effect.
@whittlejim and colleagues developed BrainPOP, a perioperative clinical trial platform and our lab had the pleasure of leading the translational research.

New review article from the lab discusses everything GBM tumor microenvironment: tech (spatial transcriptomic, metabolomics and proteomics), biology and implications for the clinic.

Now on BioRxiv: we explored patient-derived GBM organoids & spheroids generated from the same resected tissue. Critically, both models maintain tumor cell composition & heterogeneity, with comparable tissue resemblance across data modalities (1/4)

Having established that spheroid models faithfully recapitulate tissue, we demonstrated their utility using @dvbro0 novel TIRE-Seq protocol. We show time & concentration-dependent AC-like state increases after TMZ exposure in a separate PDN model (3/4)

This was a collaborative effort with @BrainCancerCtr members in Sieber Lab @WEHI_research @KeithLigon5 lab and was driven by postdoc @moorezacmoore (4/4)
