Remember that conversation you had in person only that showed up as ads a bit later? It was not your phone but your tv that was listening all the time
WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners. Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads. Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was. Got a root shell. then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems. This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.

Microsoft had the entire "Messenger" market with MSN, Google owned social networks with Orkut/Google Plus. They both self-destroyed by letting the wrong people launch/merge/combine products so they could get promoted.

I always found really odd and outdated current gen consoles reliance on dvds/bluerays as physical media. It doesn't give you the bandwidth to run from it, so you endup using it as a glorified install source. Nintendo's approach makes a lot more sense. And its fast. For sony it was obvious, they created the media so they benefit both from econony of scale and by licensing the media. It is still a crap experience. I still think killing the disc is the correct path, BUT they need to replace it with nintendo alike cartridge.

When the Elixir creator cares more about ruby/rails then most of the "big names". Obrigado @josevalim 🤎

You are right but it also feels short-sighted? You have the most powerful tool you ever had, you have become a 1000x maker, and you can't think of how to make your stack 10x better? Yes, Rust is fast, the type system catches bugs, but there is so much beyond it. * Why not make Ruby 10x faster? * Why not make Ruby (and therefore Rails) really great at concurrency? * Why not add a banging type system to Ruby that can provide guarantees beyond Rust? * Why not embed SQLite3 into Rails with a replication protocol so you can really compress the stack beyond a single server? * How to preemptively fix most bugs from the most critical parts of Rails, such as database pools? Yes, who cares about ActiveSearch, but there are so many ways we can fundamentally improve our stacks that go beyond asking the agent to just crap out code. Phoenix is still the only framework that ships with presence, because it turns out it is deceptively a hard problem to solve correctly, but somehow all issues are solved? I understand some folks have no interest in doing any of the above, and that's fine, but then at least pass the baton to the people who want to do exactly that. PS: I say all of this with love ❤️

You don't have to like rust. It can just be your compilation target. I don't know if we have "time" for this, but if the languages designed for the humans are to survive, rust source is your new assembly.

With all the rust rewrites, this is likely the one that will have the most impact. PostgreSQL achiles hills has always been it's connection model. If we can just ignore that, we can care a lot more about other things like lock contantion and the damn WAL log filling up the disk
The single biggest change @JasonSeibel and I have made for @pgrustdb is switching from a process per connection model to a thread per connection model. This has a ton of implications. pgrust is more reliable, faster, and needs less memory because we're using threads. Our eventual goal is to make connections so cheap, that you don't need to run an external connection pooler like pgbouncer in front of your database.

When you hire A team you get A team. When you don't, you get whatever busy work, politics, lack of vision, etc. People get promoted, doesn't mean anything.

There has only been a time like today that a single person could own and operate an entire infrastructure, thanks to AI and open source. We are in the era of the "Webmaster 2.0".

It seems the circus is finally leaving the town... there is way less clownery in tech then 1 or 2 years ago. The pendulum is finally swinging back to the other direction. Maybe in another 2 years we can go back to meaninful meetings and events.
