As First Nations spokesperson for the Greens I'm deeply concerned that the NT Govt has cancelled funding to the Bush Bus and cut whole communities off - I'm calling on the Federal Government to follow this up and do whatever possible to make sure people aren't just stranded.

The sequel to The Social Network has made less money in its entire run, worldwide, than the original made in its first three days. Sony's now yanking it from almost 2,000 theaters. And the reason goes back to a stopwatch. When Aaron Sorkin wrote The Social Network, his script came in at 162 pages. Hollywood figures about a minute of screen time per page, so Sony was looking at a movie close to three hours long about college kids building a website. The studio was nervous about the length before a single scene got shot. So David Fincher came over to Sorkin's house with a stopwatch. He had Sorkin read the entire script out loud, as fast as Sorkin heard the lines in his own head, and timed every scene. The whole thing came in at one hour and fifty-nine minutes. Then he made the actors talk that fast on camera. Remember the opening scene where Jesse Eisenberg gets dumped in a bar? That took 99 takes over two days. It's why everybody in that movie talks like they've had four espressos, and it's a big reason two hours of guys arguing in deposition rooms plays like a thriller. The Oscars tell you who made that work. The movie won three. Sorkin got one for the script, and the other two went to the people who controlled how fast it felt, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for the score and Kirk Baxter and Angus Wall for the editing. None of them worked on the sequel. Fincher wasn't involved and Eisenberg turned down Sony's money. Sorkin ended up directing it himself, and the cinematographer, Jeff Cronenweth, was the only other big name from 2010 who came back. You can feel it in the reviews. Even critics who liked The Social Reckoning said it's buried in Sorkin monologues. It opened to $5.5 million on a reported $30 million budget and dropped 69% the next weekend. Sorkin is still about as good as anyone alive at writing dialogue. On the first movie, Fincher's whole job was deciding how much of it you'd actually have to sit through, and how fast. This time around, nobody was holding the stopwatch.
JUST IN: “The Social Reckoning” is pulled from nearly 2,000 theaters after just 2 weeks, following a massive box office flop.

Imagine a scenario where the military refuses to attack another country because they know the Prime Minister is only advocating it to confer a domestic political advantage on himself. Well, it seems to be happening in Israel just hours before a general election.
Full on crisis underway in Israel as the military is pushing back on a Netanyahu order re Iran

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump and his family have lost surprise elections, thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

Absolute fire here from Monique Ryan: “She is a negative force in Australian politics.” For decades Pauline Hanson has been platformed and legitimised despite the racism, bigotry and division. If you’re going to give her the platform and the reach, then hold her to account.

"If you're not angry, you're not listening" If you haven't already, take the time to listen to this eloquent young American. Says it all: succintly.
A lot of people missed this young woman's clip at the No Kings protest, she was really iconic, wrapped in the flag, talking straight to camera while the march moved around her. She is a brave person and worth watching again and again.

I first fell for Slow Horses because it was espionage like I’d never seen before. A brilliant dark comedy, with subversion buried so deep it’d always sneak up on you.  Add to that, Gary Oldman’s gloriously disheveled Jackson Lamb sparring with the cold, unflappable Diana Taverner! Killer combo. But only this season could I put my finger on why Slow Horses lands so hard.  Anyone can die. At any moment. And you won't see it coming. Most shows have a deal with the audience. They let you know who's expendable and who isn't. The leads, the charming ensemble, the likeable ones. They take risks, they get hurt, but they make it. Slow Horses pulls that rug right from under you. You only realise someone's gone after the scene lands like a punch to the gut. And you sit there, staring. Beneath the humor and absurdity, it delivers the direct experience of being a spy.  Not war-room talk, but how close death walks beside every one of them. One misstep, one blink, and it's over. Once you realise this, the opening song, "Strange Game," hits different: "You made one mistake, you got burned at the stake. You're finished, you're foolish, you failed." What a show. 🖤
