Pumpfun is lowkey going down the same path Fortnite did.
Fortnite pushed updates no one liked and started trying to become the next Roblox by heavily incentivizing “creators” into creating creative maps.
Pumpfun is doing the same now, they’re trying to become the next big retail app by heavily incentivizing creators over traders.
Both led the industries they were in, but both eventually started moving in a direction their core players didn’t like, or were straight up damaged by.
Instead of first and foremost taking
care of the people who were there from the start, they both decided to shift focus from their core audience to a new one
For Fortnite, that was by getting Roblox kids to rotate over, and for Pumpfun it’s bringing in “retail” traders.
Both of those audiences can be good, but the problem was how they made the switch

I was so fucking clueless, started buying stuff on coinbase and the first onchain trades I made were on coinbase wallet 😂
I put 700 bucks into chillguy, I remember looking at my wallet and being in disbelief, i just held all the way to ~500m ish
the thing that excited me about onchain was the idea of identifying a meme that I recognized and enjoyed, buying it, and holding it for much higher. There is nothing more electric than green candles
It wasn’t about who bought, or who had fees, etc
I was also incredibly jealous of people who had secured sizable positions in the crypto culture coins of that era. Watching a group of people collectively bullpost and hold coins to crazy prices was so intriguing to me & i thought it was awesome simply put
I never once desired to be online everyday and trade a million coins, and I still don’t. It’s incredible how the majority of people now clown bag holding when its one of the things that made this space awesome.
