I am outraged. In #Jericho, my hometown, Israeli settlers are celebrating their takeover of eight homes as a historic “return.
“After thousands of years, the people of Israel have returned to settle the city of Jericho.” That is how Hebrew reports celebrated the move on 4 November. Israel Ganz, head of the Binyamin Regional Council, said, “We are returning home.” Daniella Weiss, who chairs the Nachala settlement movement, presented it as part of a wider effort to renew Jewish settlement across the region.
Here is what that “return” looked like for Palestinians in al-Duyuk al-Tahta, west of Jericho. On 4 November, settlers moved into eight homes in an operation organized by Nachala and backed by the Binyamin Regional Council. The organizers claimed they had purchased the properties. Palestinian residents nearby said they were afraid to go back to their own homes. Today settlers are backed by Israeli forces who attacked residents and International activists, beating them and spraying them with pepper spray. Many were injured.
I am a daughter of Jericho, a city with more than 10,000 years of history. I refuse to watch that history be invoked to justify taking over Palestinian homes today. How can anyone celebrate a “return” while the people who live there are afraid to return to their own homes?
My family home is less than 2 Kilometers away !!!

Around 30 Israeli settlers, some of whom were armed, took over eight homes in Ein Al-Duyuk Al-Tahta on the outskirts of Jericho in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday.
Activists warned that settlers could be reproducing the situation in Hebron, where armed Israeli settlers live in enclaves inside the Palestinian city, contributing to displacement and severe restrictions on Palestinian freedom of mobility
🔴 The operation near Jericho was organized by the Nachala settlement movement, which claims to have secretly purchased the properties.
🔴 Sixty-five Palestinian residents fled after settlers attacked them with stones, an activist told the Times of Israel. Residents said that Israeli forces subsequently blocked access to the area, leaving homeowners afraid to return.
🔴 Yisrael Gantz, head of the West Bank settler council, framed the move as an effort to dismantle the Oslo Accords, declaring: “Today we begin reversing the trend, dismantling the Oslo Accords through actions, house by house, family by family.”
🔴 Palestinian National Council Speaker Rawhi Fattouh condemned the takeover as “organized terrorism” carried out under Israeli government protection, charging Israel of encouraging settlement expansion and forced displacement.

על פי צה"ל כניסת המתנחלים לאזור תפסה אותם בהפתעה והם היו צריכים להסית גדוד של חיילים מפעילות בגבול ירדן. עוד נטען שהמתנחלים לא קיבלו אישור צבאי להיכנס לאזור ושהטענות על רכישת הבתים נבדקות ברגעים אלו.
יש לציין שהמתנחלים עדיין לא חשפו מסמכים שמעידים על רכישת הבתים.

Israeli forces shot and killed Noura Sheikh El-Eid, 54, in the Bir 19 area of Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis, southern Gaza, on Thursday. She was returning to her tent after saying goodbye to her daughter and son-in-law, who were preparing to travel, seeking medical treatment.

“Everyone else is living their lives with their children. Except us. Except the Gaza Strip. Why? We are deprived of water. Our children are killed. Our homes are destroyed. What have we done?” she added.
Noura’s nephew, Mohammed Sheikh El-Eid, said residents of Bir 19 face daily Israeli gunfire. “We spend hours lying on the ground because of this gunfire,” he said. “People, including children and women, are being martyred inside their tents.”
