Today teams are in BC Peace sampling for the 2026 Annual Canola Survey of the #PeaceRiverRegion ! Many thanks to our region’s canola producers and to our super staff members! Samples have a LOT of petals so we won’t 100% know what’s in there until processing begins.

Heads-up for canola producers up near LaCrete AB: Our survey team spotted clover cutworm so please be scouting! We called/texted 2 producers but moving as quick as we can. No call = nothing spotted so far. Thank you growers for supporting this annual survey (since 2003)!

Much of the #PeaceRiverRegion didn’t get rain last week so please SCOUT CAREFULLY & NOW for cutworms, flea beetles and wireworms. Water-stressed seedlings cannot tolerate much for feeding pressure!

Credit to retired wheat breeder at the U of A Dean Spaner (Project PI) and graduate student Jacey Toerper (also with AAFC in Beaverlodge) for this work. We ran a site down in Lethbridge but this was their baby...I was just 'Sideshow Bob' on this one 😎

Remember wheat damage? Before Midge Tolerant Wheat, harvest could get ugly. Let's not go back to the days of dockage and yield loss. Please practice proper stewardship and limit the use of farm-saved seed to one generation past Certified seed.

As temperatures continue to cool off, remember to check grain temperatures and moisture levels in your bins!❄️ 💦Condensation can occur near the surface, leaving free moisture and warm bin temperatures, leading to spoilage risk! 🔗canolacouncil.org/canola-wat… #Canola #GrainStorage @canolacouncil
