Kenya is making progress in containing the Ebola outbreak, with no new cases reported in the last 10 days, following coordinated efforts by the Ministry of Health, County Governments and development partners.
During our 9th Ebola Taskforce meeting today, we reviewed response and preparedness efforts. So far, the country has recorded nine cases and two deaths, with contacts still under quarantine and surveillance. Those completing the required monitoring period are expected to be progressively released, with the process expected to conclude by November 11.
We remain vigilant and continue to strengthen surveillance, particularly at our Points of Entry. We urge Kenyans to observe public health protocols, including avoiding unnecessary physical contact such as handshakes and hugs.
The meeting brought together County Governments, development partners and other agencies to strengthen coordination and sustain the gains made in containing the outbreak.

The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court has convicted a Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) employee for using a forged academic certificate to secure employment and ordered him to pay a total of ๐๐๐๐,๐๐๐,๐๐๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ฌ.
In a judgment delivered on ๐๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐, Hon. Celesa Okore convicted ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐๐ข๐๐ก๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐ซ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข, a driver at the company, on four counts: fraudulent acquisition of public property, uttering a false document, deceiving a principal and presenting a forged certificate. He was acquitted of the charge of forgery.
The Court found that Muiruri presented a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate indicating that he had attained a mean grade of ๐ ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ง in the 2002 examination, whereas he had obtained a ๐ ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ง.
The case arose from investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) following a report that Muiruri had used a forged academic certificate to secure employment at NCWSC. Upon completing its investigations, the Commission forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions with recommendations for prosecution.
The Court ordered Muiruri to pay ๐๐๐๐,๐๐๐,๐๐๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง for salaries received between November 2016 and December 2023, or ๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐ฏ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฒ๐๐๐ซ๐ฌโ ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ.
In addition, the Court imposed fines totalling ๐๐๐๐๐๐,๐๐๐, comprising:
ยท ๐๐๐๐๐๐,๐๐๐ for fraudulent acquisition of public property, or 12 monthsโ imprisonment in default;
ยท ๐๐๐๐๐๐,๐๐๐ for uttering a false document, or eight monthsโ imprisonment in default;
ยท ๐๐๐๐๐๐,๐๐๐ for deceiving a principal, or eight monthsโ imprisonment in default; and
ยท ๐๐๐๐๐๐,๐๐๐ for presenting a forged certificate, or eight monthsโ imprisonment in default.
The Court directed that the default prison terms attached to the four fines run consecutively.

Tackling an international fraud ring of this scale is the result of longstanding cooperation between Kenya and the United States. This team of investigators is not finished with their work to fight fraud and protect citizens.
The United States is deeply grateful for the assistance and professionalism of Kenyan law enforcement and prosecutors. This includes @DCI_Kenya, Assets Recovery Agency, @ODPP_KE, Kenya Revenue Authority, and the Financial Reporting Center.
Through this critical assistance and intelligence from Kenya, investigators were able to seize more than $750,000 from a cryptocurrency account belonging to a Kenyan national connected to this fraud scheme.

Reliable data helps us measure progress towards a world that is more peaceful, just and inclusive. @UNODC is working with UN partners and national institutions to improve the data available, helping countries identify gaps and focus attention where it is needed most.
While we have made important gains over the past decade, progress to achieve the promise of Agenda 2030 is still too slow and risks falling out of reach. The level of vulnerability of people, countries and regions is accentuated by the deployment of technology in general, and AI in particular, in support of sophisticated, networked transnational organized criminal enterprises involved in drugs and crime, and whose driving logic is profit.
As we look to 2030 and beyond, three priorities stand out: stepping up efforts to tackle corruption and illicit financial flows; strengthening protection, justice and prevention for vulnerable people; and ensuring justice systems work for everyone.
