I think pitches per out is a very under valued stat. It’s consistent with an “attack mode” philosophy. Basically my goal is to get you out on this pitch.
Novel idea… Spend less pitch equity for outs, win more games.
Teams that THROW LESS PITCHES to acquire outs and strikeouts & have ⬆️ defensive efficiency win more games.

These teams are teams that are definitely not obsessing over analytics.
We’ve spent years talking about the Dodgers payroll, but are we asking the WRONG question?
Milwaukee, Tampa Bay, Cleveland… year after year, these organizations find ways to compete without spending like the giants.
At what point do big-market teams stop obsessing over analytics and start POACHING the scouts from these organizations?
Maybe the biggest competitive advantage in baseball isn’t payroll. It’s knowing how to IDENTIFY TALENT that can compete when the lights are the brightest?..
