Can honestly say having heard the anger from the public about these sorts of issues in focus group after focus group this line is wishful thinking. It’s also surprising given Starmer really seemed to get it isn’t just about policy, it’s about restoring faith in politics.

Labour line on gifts/donations to the Prime Minister this morning appears to be that voters don’t care about this stuff and are only concerned about govt delivery. But lesson from partygate is that just isn’t true. These matters alter the image of a govt, sometimes irreversibly.
