Got oil? #oott 🤠
BREAKING: Yemen's Houthis appear to have struck the Abqaiq oil processing facility in eastern Saudi Arabia, the largest crude stabilization plant in the world, handling around 5 to 7% of global oil supply. EUMETSAT Meteosat imagery shows a black smoke plume roughly 90 km long trailing from the site for at least seven hours, from 06:45 UTC until the satellite lost light at sunset.
Abqaiq processes the crude from Ghawar, the world's largest oilfield, and feeds the export terminals at Ras Tanura and Juaymah.

"Fresh satellite imagery shows Pump Station 9 badly damaged, with Pump Station 8 possibly hit too, both feeding the same artery that carries crude clear across the country to the Red Sea" #oott 🤠
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia's oil problem just multiplied.
What looked like a single Houthi hit on the East-West pipeline is now looking like a coordinated hammering of the whole system.
Fresh satellite imagery shows Pump Station 9 badly damaged, with Pump Station 8 possibly hit too, both feeding the same artery that carries crude clear across the country to the Red Sea.
Take out one pump station and you have a headache. Take out two on the same line and you have a pipeline that could sit largely dead for 3-5 weeks, maybe longer.
The timing could not be worse. The East-West line exists precisely so Saudi can bypass the Strait of Hormuz and ship from Yanbu instead.
With that route crippled and Hormuz already a chokepoint everyone is nervous about, the Kingdom's escape hatch is the thing now getting welded shut.
This is the part of the map the Houthis clearly studied harder than anyone gave them credit for.

Today, Russia announced the ban of sulphuric acid exports.
Russia also banned the export of elemental sulphur late last year to protect its agricultural industry, as its domestic production has been declining. Like the sulphur export ban, the sulphuric acid ban is said to be in place until the end of the year.
Russia is the 12th largest exporter of sulphuric acid and almost all of it goes to Kazakhstan… the world’s tenth largest copper producer.
While we suspect that the ban on the ‘King of Chemicals’ (sulphuric acid) won’t make a big impact on the production of the ‘King of Metals’ (copper)… we are unlikely to see the record-high prices for sulphur and sulphuric acid prices come down any time soon.
In the DRC, we are already seeing high-strength sulphuric acid prices traded at over $1,000 per tonne… up well over 100% in the past 3 months alone.
While it’s not surprising to see countries prioritise food security and domestic supply chains over global free trade… any balkanizing of supply chains is nothing but inflationary.

Twenty-five years ago today, the world witnessed the deadliest terrorist attack in human history, which took nearly 3,000 innocent lives, including those of 24 Canadians. In the years that followed, thousands more would lose their lives to illnesses linked to the attacks.
Today, Alberta joins people across Canada, the United States, and around the world in remembering those who were taken from us, the families who still carry their loss, and the first responders whose extraordinary courage saved countless lives.
Twenty-five years later, we’re reminded of the compassion and friendship that have long united Canada and the United States. We remember the Canadians who opened their homes and communities to thousands of stranded travellers, and the thousands of brave Canadians who answered the call to defend our country and our allies in the War on Terror, especially the 158 Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives.
We have always stood and will continue to stand side by side with our American neighbours in times of need, and as friends and allies, we remain resolute in defending the freedoms and values that terrorism sought to attack.
We will always remember.

⚠️Qatar Extends LNG Force Majeure as Hormuz Traffic Remains Halted
Qatar extended force majeure on liquefied natural gas supplies to European and Asian buyers by another month as uncertainty over the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz clouds prospects for restoring Persian Gulf energy flows.
State-owned QatarEnergy this week notified Pakistani buyers that LNG cargo cancellations will continue into October, according to traders familiar with the matter. Force majeure on supplies to Bangladesh has also been extended beyond September, they said.
Italy’s Edison SpA, one of QatarEnergy’s customers, said that cancellations were extended into early November. Other traders in Europe have also started receiving notices, according to two other people aware of the development. (Bloomberg)
Hedge funds slashed short-only positions on European diesel to the lowest in over two years while stacking up fresh bullish wagers, a sign that traders anticipate that a historic fuels crunch will stretch on #oott bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
