Why does it seem like courts don't value people's time? π§ Court clerks default answer tends to be "come to the court." This disproportionately affects those who cannot afford to take time off work #a2j
Today we discovered that the San Mateo clerk's office has been incorrectly interpreting the serving rules and likely has prevented many self-represented litigants from getting their day in court
unpopular a2j opinion- we don't need fancier ODR solutions, we need the basics down first like court clerks understanding that going in person to file documents is a burden
Last week a small claims judge rejected a Zoom hearing request stating that traveling from Florida to California for the hearing was not a "hardship" π¬ a2j is such an uphill battle

Some facts about access to justice in the US from @ralphbaxter. The US ranks 126 out of 139 countries in #a2j. This is NOT "justice for all." #FutureLaw2023

When a woman succeeds, too many people - including other women - resent her for it.
And for ambitious female founders of high growth companies, all too often this leads to a takedown.
It's time to stop.
