happy 4th birthday midnights. I still think about the multiple synth lines/drone effects in songs like Maroon, Midnight Rain, Labyrinth, and Dear Reader that sound like an attempt to make a rip in the time continuum as memories reach out from endless portals of time
jack antonoff revealing that they used vintage synthesizers, tape delays and an old echo machine on taylor’s vocals while making “midnights” explains SO much about that album. like, it sounds like someone recorded their deepest thoughts at 2A and somehow managed to make the loneliness feel warm. the little echoes, the distorted textures, the way certain sounds almost seem to disappear into themselves and you know what? i would genuinely love to hear what those songs sounded like before the final production. imagine getting to listen to the original studio sessions.

she’ll be writing well into her golden years 😭😭 even after her voice will have lost its power, even after it cracks as it naturally does at that age, she will write songs, maybe sell them, she’ll continue to be everywhere, she’s immortal now baby dolls
what tayhaters don’t understand is that taylor’s greatest weapon has always been her pen. even if, god forbid, they succeed in cancelling her into oblivion, she’ll again write about it, immortalise the backlash through her art and end up back on top of the charts

Seems like the goal is to destroy every joyful fan space possible. Thats where her strength is- her fandom . Once they destroy it - shes vulnerable. You cant say a single nice thing about her without nasty snarkers in your quotes mocking. It’s exhausting. That’s the goal 🫤
i wonder what the end goal of these bots and smear campaigns are? cause it's not going to destroy her legacy or make her less successful? just doing too much for no reason.

"gay men are the core audience" not really
gay men are the core audience for pop divas but we as a culture generally, queer and straight, still have a very hard time letting gay men actually *be* pop divas...

the way she came to an agreement with apple AND spotify which benefitted all artists even tho her peers attacked her for it at the time. no other main artist has done something major like this (apart from insta stories) ever since because it's so risky.
In an open letter on June 21, 2015, Taylor Swift said Apple Music would not get her album 1989 because of its three-month free trial policy. A few hours later, Apple agreed to pay all artists during the trial. In the clip below, she explains why she wrote it. "For anyone who wants to create music, for any little kid who's taking piano lessons right now, I want them to have an industry to go into." She had done this before. In November 2014, she pulled her catalog from Spotify, which refused to keep her music behind its paid tier. Apple Music was set to launch on June 30, 2015, with three free months. For that time, artists, songwriters and producers would be paid nothing. Apple's answer was a bigger cut after the trial, about 72% of revenue against roughly 70% elsewhere in the industry. Her letter ended: "We don't ask you for free iPhones. Please don't ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation." After posting it, she later recalled, she was struck by an overwhelming fear: "Am I gonna wake up tomorrow and all my music is off of iTunes?" That Sunday evening, Apple's Eddy Cue posted that Apple would pay artists during the trial, at a lower rate per stream, and called her. "Fast forward a couple hours and everything was different," she said. On June 25, she announced 1989 would be on Apple Music. At launch, it was the only streaming service with the album. Later she joked: "I didn't have a personal relationship with Apple until that point. I'm sure there are better ways to introduce yourself." The introduction turned into a partnership. In December 2015, her 1989 tour film came out exclusively on Apple Music, and in 2016 she starred in its ads. So did Swift win this fight for every artist, or did Apple just not want to lose her?
