A new process for writing/thinking that I'm trying out
1. New Google Doc, hit record/transcribe
2. Let loose a 2-3 minute stream of thoughts/ideas on a subject, some good some bad. No editing
3. Ask ChatGPT to take those ramblings and turn it into a 500 word blog by @morganhousel

Standardized testing is going to come roaring back in importance once colleges figure out that HS grades don't mean anything anymore in some districts.
There's going to be no other signal that separates students from others, even personal essays will all be modal with AI
The skill I'm most jealous of in others is the ability to explain things simply, clearly, and concisely. Or Efficient Knowledge Communicators (ekcs).
Think of people like Paul Graham, Grant Sanderson (3b1b), Steven Strogatz, Kyla Scanlon, Neil deGrasse Tyson, roon, etc.

Every college syllabus should include these graphs.
Use AI for homework, you will get it done faster and get a higher grade, and then get crushed on the exam.

Differentiation gave mathematics a language for changing slopes.
Integration gave it a language for accumulating quantities and areas.
Together, they transformed the study of motion, change, and modern analysis.
There are a couple of universal patterns that show up across fields that you should apply to pretty much anything:
- Use a written process because memory isn't reliable (see aviation checklists, surgery, mise en place, SOPs...)
- Stop early when something is wrong (Andon cord, feature flags, turnaround time, error budgets...)
- Leave a buffer (Margin of safety, safety stock, taper, defense in depth...)
- Fix the system rather than blame people (Blameless post-mortems, poka-yoke, Swiss cheese model...)
- Get feedback fast (OODA, kaizen, canary releases, after-action reviews...)
- Hand over with a fixed format (SBAR, BLUF, commander's intent...)
- Ramp up gradually (10% rule, canary releases, position sizing....)

Math needs a phonics-style reckoning. This is a fantastic article by @mattyglesias. Thank you for writing this piece on math and for the shout out. You've explained my position perfectly.
Drilling & mastering the basics isn't the enemy of understanding. It's a prerequisite!

This video from 2 years ago could be improved, so I used ChatGPT and Claude to make attempts and then used Codex with Astra 6 to build off of those attempts.
I think this video is a much simpler and more intuitive way of thinking about the Quadratic Formula.

For anyone interested, this is called "The Interstellar Experience" by Tony Ann.

It's mind bending walking around the same place simultaneously in two timelines
Inside the frame it's winter, and outside the frame it's summer - until you step inside.
Recorded this footage in the winter and localized it against a massive 3d scan of the same ranch in the summer. You can follow the camera from the outside, then step into the moment I recorded.
We spend so much time looking at memories through 2d rectangles in our camera roll. It's a strange feeling to walk around one instead. Like navigating through space instead of scrolling through time.
The geospatial memory palace continues to come to life!

Es simplemente lo mejor que vi desde que se inventó la rueda.
Subí el volumen.
Near me is an intersection that has 2 old school bar restaurants and 1 fancy restaurant on it.
Well the fancy restaurant has a door that doesn't look like it's a door and I've learned that it's always funny to watch a nicely dressed couple walk cluelessly around a building
