immediately knew this was robin hobb
That awkward moment when you realise a book series you are reading, that you thought was a trilogy... Actually has 16 books 😭😭😭

i mean. do you think if netflix went out for a month everyone would just shrug and not care about it?
is people's addiction to fanfiction (wow that rhymed) exaggerated or do people really freak out when they can't read about two characters falling in love for over 24 hours. that's just so crazy to me

me and the gang braving the dead desolate wilderness of livejournal to hunt down fics in these trying times (ao3 is down for a MONTH)
We estimate that service restoration for #AO3 will take around 2 weeks but it could be up to 4 weeks. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state sooner. Refer to our status page for updates: otwstatus.org/

my lukewarm take is that while it is important to read things that are challenging, educational, or outside your comfort zone, it’s also okay and completely normal for the majority of your reading to be about entertainment and enjoyment

It’s kind of rude to wake up at 10am on October 24 and not find myself in Rivendell…..

i understand the desire here but also let’s appreciate the hard work and passion of the translators!!! translation is in itself practically an art form, and they deserve to be appreciated too!!
I wish I was fluent in every language just to read the poetry and literature in its truest form without a translation pulling it apart.

imagine missing the whole point of fanfiction
On fanfiction. There's nothing wrong with thinking up and dreaming alternatives to famous books and stories . But that's where it should stop. As soon as you decide to write it down -- stop. Don't. Instead, turn that energy into dreaming of your own book, your own story. Want to change Harry Potter? Write a better fantasy. Capture the feeling you want, but create something else entirely. Why live in someone else's world and cage yourself to using their scraps, their plot holes? Be free, writers. Be free, readers. You can leap from world to world. Imagine new places and people. Become infatuated with your own imagination, instead of that of others. There are limitless books out there. Find them, read them, write them. Dream bigger, dream deeper. Maybe it won't be as fun at first, but eventually you'll realize that your mind has superseded the tiny worlds of the Malfoids or Star Wars what-ifs or whatever else is popular. You'll be making your own worlds. You'll be the master. Your magic system. Your characters. You'll be free to defeat the potholes, to create romances, adventures, horrors, deaths. You'll dine on steak and wonder how you ever ate happy meals. I know this because I started writing with the Eragon series in mind, but I refused to make a fanfic. Instead, I imagined my own world, carefully molding it. It was a terrible book, but it opened my eyes to new ideas, new places, new dreams. Use your fanfiction ideas as inspiration, but never as the foundation. Build your own foundation, my friends. Sprout wings and fly. The world of stories is endless. Why chain yourselves?

see this is one of those things where i think one way about officially published works but completely the opposite about fanworks. a published author should know to stay out of/be careful of reader’s spaces. but with fanfiction/fanart it’s a completely different relationship
a rec list is a conversation between readers, not the reader and author

maybe i’m just old and remember when most fic readers were ALSO fic writers but making a fic rec list and rating the fics feels like going over to your neighbors house and telling them that the cookies they gave you sucked
