The Dog Who Wouldn't Stop Searching
On September 11, 2001, Apollo disappeared into a hole in the rubble at Ground Zero.
Then a fireball erupted.
Seconds later, the German Shepherd came running back toward his handler, NYPD Officer Peter Davis.
Apollo was on fire.
Davis brushed the burning embers from his thick coat.
And Apollo went right back to searching.
Apollo was nine years old—an age when many police dogs had already retired. But that morning, he and Davis became the first canine search-and-rescue team to arrive at Ground Zero.
The conditions were brutal.
To reach the rubble, Davis later recalled wading through water that came nearly to his waist. Apollo searched across jagged concrete and dangerously hot debris. His coat was singed. His paws became cracked and bruised.
Still, he searched.
Apollo had been trained to find the living. But as the hours passed, the terrible reality of the site became clearer. Eventually, Davis had to physically pull Apollo away from the debris when the dog refused to stop looking.
And Apollo wasn't alone.
Search-and-rescue dogs and their handlers worked through wreckage, dust and toxic fumes in the aftermath of the attacks. Apollo became a symbol of all of them.
On March 5, 2002, he was awarded the PDSA Dickin Medal for courage and devotion to duty. Apollo had been selected by ballot to receive the honor on behalf of every search-and-rescue dog that had worked at the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
Apollo lived to be 14.
Twenty-five years later, we remember the people who ran toward danger that morning.
Apollo reminds us that not all of them ran on two legs.

If you walk away from that Braves series with nothing but negative thoughts about the Yankees, I’m just going to assume you’re never happy in life
The pitching was incredible, and the offense made much better contact. Took 2/3 from a great baseball team, hell yeah

There’s so much HYPERBOLE on this app, someone trying to be somewhat fair will actually get you called a shill. It’s super comical 😂 I hope y’all aren’t as ridiculous IRL

The deadline isn’t over and the Yankees got a big bat. Why are people losing their minds? It’s 12:54pm in NYC. At least wait until the deadline passes? Maybe? Too much to ask? (Yes)

I would just like the Yankees to get some productive bats, a high end relief pitcher, and good health. I feel damn good about the team if/when that happens. They have to bring in the right pieces though.

The Yankees have won like 12 of their last 17 games ALL against current playoff teams. And half the fans on this app today are saying this team isn’t worth buying for and they should sell. Because they got shut down by a top 5 pitcher this year in the AL lmao

Aaron Judge is trending in the right direction. Max Fried starts his rehab assignment tonight. Lombard is off the IL. Rodón is throwing off the mound. Clarke Schmidt is throwing to hitters tomorrow. These are all positive signs.
(Stanton is in his own category.)

Jazz Chisholm Jr. stepped up as a leader last night and then backed it up with his bat. I know he has his moments, but he’s a damn good baseball player that wants to win. He should credit for that and not always get shit from people.

The core of the Yankees’ issues are injuries but that doesn’t explain away or defend the absolute garbage baseball they’re playing. They have plenty of talent left to win a bunch of these games. They’re not playing up to their levels and someone needs to call that out.

Welcome to the most over hyped, fake media rivalry in baseball. I have zero “extra juice” bc it’s the Mets. I honestly go bc it’s a Yankee game and it’s close to my house.
