smthn fun about writing david's pov is how he's like oh. what a beautiful thing it is to watch my son be so in love. then the realization that shane does shit for ilya that david does for yuna and now david has to take a sit to process That.

mischaracterization sucks but sry i cant take this "ilya critical" pearl-clutching srsly when 2 weeks ago there was a fic going around that ppl were gleefully recommending to each other where shane reassures ilya that he "doesn't fuck like a racist". not a peep out of anyone then

canonically its ilya who is less obsessed with hockey n would probably leave it for shane but i see way too many hockey player ilya/normal guy shane fics/hcs and y'all need to contemplate a bit about why you do that.

I love seeing when it's Shane obsessed and totally committed to something else that captures his fancy... as a #shanehead that's interesting to me to see explored!!! I also like it the other way around ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

also just replied to someone else about this but I've seen some canon compliant fics with both as hockey players which absolutely bastardise Shane's characterisation (and ilya's sometimes) and so maybe that's why I find it hard to see this as an issue just with those AUs lol

y’all we had this discourse in like dec/jan where those of us who write these fics pointed out that shane’s autism and personal drive make it narratively compelling to see him go all in on other professions and that it is in most cases not a malicious or discriminatory choice
