Another year of life, and a few lessons that have stayed with me as an old man: • Hardship is inevitable. Life will confront you with problems you never imagined facing. Some will be painful, but so long as you have your health, you have the strength to endure and overcome. • Clarity comes with age. The older you get, the more you recognize what truly matters. Once you find it, devote as much time as possible to it or them, and as little as possible to everything else. That’s where joy and hope reside. • Time is our most valuable commodity. It waits for no one. We age, our energy shifts, and our interests evolve. Embrace change. The life you’ve known for the last decade may look nothing like the one awaiting you in the next. • Fear the Lord. Ironically, that fear breeds a deeper respect for your moral convictions and teaches you to love without compromise. Psalm 111:10. • Nothing is forever. That’s both beautiful and terrifying. Learn to be at peace with both.

All Souls’ Day. 🕯️ Pray for your loved ones who are no longer with us. We don’t do it nearly enough. How blessed we would be to have someone remember us in prayer when our own time comes.

All Hallows Eve. Catholic Lore - Before Halloween became a celebration of costumes, horror, and superstition, All Hallows’ Eve was the vigil of All Saints’ Day. This night carries spiritual symbolism like mortality (Memento mori), judgment, the vigil of Saints, and Christ’s triumph over death. (Communion).
