In 2022, Blake Blossom slept with 200 guys she met on Tinder, and then FaceTimed her mom right in the middle of filming her very first porn scene. Tinder in college is just a numbers game. Swipe right, meet at In-N-Out, go back to the dorm. Blake Blossom won the game. “I was the ASU Tinder slut.” “I was just a closeted Tinder hoe cuz I love Tinder.” She didn’t hide it. When she told her family she was doing porn, they didn’t even blink. “Oh, we could have seen that coming.” The cameras started rolling. Her first scene was with Jake Adams. He went hard. Really hard. “He fucked the shit out of me.” But she had a plan to make the scene pop off. She called her mom on FaceTime right before the action started. “Hey mom, we’re about to start.” The camera was rolling. He was holding the Hitachi. “Was her mom freaked out?” “No.” “Most girls would never do that.” “I got lucky.” She turned her first day into a viral moment just because she wanted her brand to stand out.
Mia Khalifa became the most searched woman on Pornhub after just 3 months of work. She says she was paid around $12,000 for all of it and never saw another cent. It started in Miami in October 2014. She was 21 and thought it would stay her little secret. The first video came out, and within a week everyone she knew had seen it. She shot 11 videos in total. One of them had her wearing a hijab. She says she told the director it was going to get her killed, but at 21 she did not know she was allowed to say no. That video made her famous across the whole world. By the end of December she was number one on Pornhub. ISIS sent her a photoshopped image of her own beheading, and her family publicly cut ties with her. She quit in early 2015 and went to work as a paralegal and bookkeeper. She later said that just finding a normal job after porn was scary. But the videos never stopped working. In 2018, three years after she left, she was still the second most searched name on the site. The money from those views went to the studio and the platforms, because she had no residuals. That is about $1,090 per video, for a name that sites kept selling for years after she walked away. In 2020 a petition to remove her videos and give back the website domains with her name got over 1 million signatures. She said she still could not go to the grocery store alone. The studio disputed parts of her story and said it never set out to exploit her background. In the video below, the BBC host tells her those images can never be erased, and she answers that this is not only her story, because other performers write to her with the same thing. Should one signature at 21 follow a person for the rest of her life?

Tiger Woods had more than 10 alleged mistresses. Rachel Uchitel was the only one who never talked. There was a reason. $8 million. In 2009 she was a New York nightclub hostess. When Tiger’s scandal broke, she says his lawyers first offered her $200,000 and wanted her phone and emails. Then Tiger called her himself and told her to get what she could. It was their last conversation. “Tell them $10 million,” she told her lawyers. The deal landed at $8 million: $5 million up front, then $1 million a year for three years. The NDA ran over 30 pages and banned her from even saying she had signed one. So while the other women sold their stories, she stayed quiet. “I’ve been silent for over a decade.” She says she couldn’t find work that wasn’t tied to the scandal. In the end she says she walked away with about $2 million. She filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. When she finally told her side in HBO’s documentary “Tiger,” his lawyers came after her for breaking the NDA. “I was not a mistress and I was in a real relationship.” “I didn’t throw somebody down the stairs, I didn’t k*ll someone. I made a mistake.” Not everyone feels sorry for her. Years later she showed off a new $2.59 million Palm Beach mansion, and commenters accused her of targeting rich married men. She says her apology is owed to “two people, not the world.” At the end of the clip she’s asked if Tiger ever reached out to apologize. “I can’t answer that.” Was she paid to disappear and then punished for speaking, or did she sell her silence and then sell her story too?

Porn star Christy Mack's ex, a UFC fighter, walked in at 3am and found her with another man. Over the next hours he broke 18 bones in her face, knocked out her teeth, sexually assaulted her and sawed off her hair with a knife. She's only alive because he went to the kitchen. In 2014 she was one of the biggest names in the adult industry, the girl covered in tattoos with millions of followers. Her boyfriend was Jon Koppenhaver, a former UFC fighter who had legally changed his name to War Machine. Their relationship was violent long before that night, and a few months earlier she had finally ended it and moved on. On August 8, 2014 he let himself into her Las Vegas home at around 3am and found her there with a friend. He attacked the friend first, who managed to run out of the house. Then he turned on her. She says the beating went on for hours. He broke her nose, knocked out her teeth, fractured her ribs and ruptured her liver. At one point he grabbed a knife, held it to her and started hacking off her hair. When he walked off to the kitchen, she ran. She went out the back door barefoot, climbed over the fence into the neighbor's yard and begged them to call the police. A few days later she posted photos of her face from the hospital bed on Twitter. Half the internet was horrified. The other half wrote that a porn star had it coming. War Machine went on the run for a week before police found him hiding in a motel in California. In 2017 a jury convicted him on 29 counts, including kidnapping and sexual assault. He was sentenced to life in prison, and he won't even be eligible for parole until he has served 36 years. She has had multiple surgeries and still lives with the damage to her face. She stepped away from the industry, and today she tells the story herself on podcasts. She survived because he decided to go get a knife instead of finishing what he started. Should a man who did this ever walk free again, or is 36 years before parole still too easy?

A few weeks after breast surgery, she was walking through a shopping center in Miami when a car stopped next to her. The window rolled down, someone told her she was gorgeous and handed her a card, and asked if she wanted to model. She went home, googled the company, and found out it made porn. Mia Khalifa was born in Lebanon and moved to the US when she was about 10. Two weeks after she started school, 9/11 happened, and her classmates started calling her “the terrorist.” In college her weight dropped to 98 pounds. She says she grew up never feeling pretty and craved male attention. Two weeks later she called back. She thought it would be her dirty little secret. She had 400 friends on Facebook, so who would ever find out? In late 2014 she shot a scene wearing a hijab. Within three days her Instagram went from 400 followers to 200,000. ISIS sent her a photoshopped picture of her head on a beheaded body. She joked about it online. A week later someone posted a Google Maps image of her apartment, and she lived in a hotel for two weeks. In the video below she tells both stories herself, the card from the car and the night she realized they knew where she lived. In the same interview she says she still hates leaving the house. When fans ask for a photo and thank her for her “work,” it makes her feel dirty. She also admits she kept the link in her bio after she quit, because she needed the money. Asked what she’d tell young girls, her first answer is “Don’t do porn. Don’t ever do porn.” Three years later she was back, selling adult content to subscribers. So was she a victim of her own fame, or did she learn to sell it better than anyone?

According to Pornhub, Lisa Ann was the most searched adult actress on the site when she retired. Ten months later, she hosted two fantasy football shows on Sirius XM. She explains how she kept the money: "The only time you get residuals in our business is if you own the content. I own about 80% of my library." She says she paid for her own movies. "I would invest anywhere from 25 to $30,000 per movie, which was four scenes." A distributor sold them for her. The lesson came at a trade show. She says a company owner had reused one of her movies in compilations and changed her outfit color on the covers. She told him it was like they barely paid her. His answer: "We're allowed to do that." So she changed the deal. She says she took a lower rate in exchange for her internet rights. When companies folded, she says, "I bought back my scenes and my paperwork." Then she left. "It's hard to walk away from 99.9% of your income," she says. "I did save." In 2015, Fox Sports found her in a condo in Los Angeles, with a second apartment in Manhattan. On the wall hung a signed Michael Jordan jersey. In her divorce, she says, her husband claimed it. "He didn't say which Jordan jersey, so I bought him a cheap replica and kept the signed one." Her new job was two weekly fantasy shows on Sirius XM, in a sport she barely knew. A caller asked: "What makes you think you know anything about this?" She won the network's fantasy football league the year before the article. So which was the bigger move: owning 80% of her library, or leaving before the business left her?

In 2007, everyone laughed at Beckham for burying his career to chase American parties for $6.5 million a year. They just missed one line in the contract that made him over $1.3 billion. “When I signed my contract, my manager Simon Fuller actually got a clause in the contract that enabled me to have a franchise at the end of my playing career.” That’s Beckham himself, explaining it years later. The clause gave him the right to buy a future MLS expansion team for a fixed $25 million, whenever he decided to use it, more than double what Toronto had paid for its own franchise that same year but still a rounding error compared to what was coming. By the time Beckham pushed his Miami bid through in 2014 and 2015, MLS was charging new investor groups $150 million to join the league. Other owners openly complained that Beckham’s partners were getting a franchise at a sixth of the going rate, riding a clause signed nearly a decade earlier. Inter Miami kicked off in 2020 and struggled near the bottom of the table for years, even drawing a league-record fine for breaking roster rules. Then Lionel Messi signed in 2023, and the valuation curve went vertical. By 2026, Forbes had the club priced at $1.35 billion, the most valuable franchise in MLS history. A $25 million number frozen into a contract in 2007 was now worth over 50 times what everyone else in the league had to pay just to get in. Did Beckham out-negotiate an entire league before anyone understood what the clause was worth, or did MLS just finally pay him fairly for turning it into a billion-dollar business?

Flo Rida signed with a tiny energy drink company whose stock sold for about 50 cents. Nine years later a jury said it owed him $82.6 million. In 2014, Celsius was losing money and couldn't afford his usual endorsement fee. So instead of a big check, it offered stock: 250,000 shares up front, plus bonus shares if sales hit set targets. Flo Rida put the drink in his music videos, wore it on a racing suit, and handed out cans from his Hummer outside Miami Heat games. By April 2021 Celsius stock was at $57.30. Flo Rida demanded the bonus shares. Celsius said the targets were never met and that its explosive growth came after his deal had ended. So he sued. In the video below, he explains on the stand why he insisted on stock. He'd already missed one fortune: "I missed out on the deal that I wanted that was with Uber. Early on they had offered me rides... And I'm a guy who has a lot of flashy cars, so I didn't really pay attention to it." This time he wanted it all: "I'm going to need some equity, I'm going to need some royalties, I'm going to need some stock and I'm going to need some upfront money." On January 18, 2023, a Broward County jury awarded him $82,640,450. An appeals court later upheld that Celsius broke the deal, but ordered the damages recalculated using the stock price at the time of the breach. So did Flo Rida earn every share by building a brand from nothing, or did a rapper cash in on growth he had nothing to do with?
