I finally created an account on Bluesky.
If you are on there as well I'd like it if we kept in touch.

New Living History episode:
Foreign architects have built many landmark buildings in China but few have been involved with as many major projects as Nikolaus Goetze and gmp.
A Thread.

Once, gmp’s Chinese partners visited the firm’s offices in Hamburg. When Goetze visited them in China later, he found their office looked exactly like gmp's. His Chinese counterpart explained: "You are famous. I want to also be famous."
Goetze: "So of course they copy us."

Last Friday, I rented a car for a day of sightseeing Qinhuangdao. It was 150 RMB, the same as the cost of a taxi ride back to the (very distant and very small) airport, so I figured it made more sense to rent a car and give myself flexibility for the day.
I booked a Geely Xingyuan - my first time with this EV. I appreciated the tall cab that gave me lots of headroom in what is a pretty compact vehicle (I'm 6'1/185cm). It didn't feel like a small car at all, thanks to that. It's just 70k CNY brand new (10k USD).
Currently reading "1,000 days in Shanghai: The Story of Volkswagen, The First Chinese-German Car Factory" by Martin Posth.
50 pages in: not terrible, occasionally dry, informative as an on-the-ground tale.
More when I'm done.

Berlin🇩🇪!!! I'm so excited to visit this incredible city. I've had the pleasure of working with some super talented musicians who live in there. So performing in this city means a lot to me. I hope to see you all!
Dec 1 - Berlin - Gretchen
Dec 2 - Hamburg - Bahnhof Pauli
Dec 6 - Düsseldorf - Stahlwerk
It's been quite a month for our little concert business. Today I learned that the upcoming brkfstblend show in Hong Kong is already almost sold out. Michael Kaneko and friends are incredible and I'm quite happy for them.
That doesn't mean this is easy work. Some bands don't work as well and then we have the unfortunate task of canceling shows. It's about as pleasant to so as breaking up but sometimes has to be done.
Seen on the street in Putuo district today, guerrilla advertising.
I suppose it's for a cheap (shared?) apartment for delivery riders? Can anyone explain?
TIL that the small robots Chinese hotels use to send deliveries to rooms can be directly filled by the delivery riders, freeing up hotel staff.
It's common enough that drivers all seem to know how to utilize them.
Tonight, experimental classical pianist Belle Chen from the UK is bringing her grand piano and synthesizer mixes to Jazz Lincoln in Shanghai.
This is going to be a small but very special show. Audiences in China are just beginning to discover this style and it's not easy to grow.
For concert promoters like us these types of artists are the most exciting. It's not something you earn money with, it's an investment in the hope that they will grow. You choose artists you find cool yourself, who you believe can catch on here. It's nerve-racking at times.
