A few thoughts after listening to Ledger’s Twitter space… IMO, it’s not a hardware wallet company’s job to “increase adoption for your mom”… It’s to maintain bulletproof integrity in the product securing your cold storage stack, period. You compromise that integrity the second you go from “your seed phrase never leaves your device” to “it’s optional”. If they wanted to launch a completely separate product or service, fine… But don’t force hardware users to install firmware with this “option”. Crypto is all about adversarial thinking - assume people are trying to steal your coins (because they are). Don’t trust, verify… And when a company breaks that trust, run for the hills. There is zero benefit to giving them the benefit of the doubt in this case. A hardware wallet is many peoples’ most trusted line of defense. Billions of dollars worth of bitcoin (and other crypto) are likely held on Ledger devices. This is unacceptable.
