For the first time ever, the most famous American in the world is not the president or a Hollywood icon or tech billionaire—it’s the Pope. This is more than a Catholic triumph; it’s a cultural watershed for the United States. In a society that often equates American influence with might or money or celebrity, now our foremost representative on the global stage is a humble man in a white cassock, preaching love, justice, and mercy. The Democratic Party is poised to send a Christian pastor, a Christian seminarian, a Jewish southerner, a Muslim doctor, and several Catholics to the United States Congress to win a commanding majority. Only in America.

After JD Vance said his preaching “is not Christianity,” Pastor Adam Hamilton went on Fox News and answered him directly: “My faith is the defining story of my life.”

Vice President JD Vance told Kansas voters that Pastor Adam Hamilton’s preaching “is not Christianity.” Hamilton answered by inviting him to church. His opponent, Sen. Roger Marshall, sued more than 700 of his own patients over medical bills. If he wins, Hamilton would become only the second senator in a century to keep pastoring a church while in office. The first, Sen. Raphael Warnock, is also a Democrat. Kansas hasn’t sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1932, and Hamilton could change that next week. thelettersfromleo.com/p/he-d…

The Sisters of Charity of New York rebuked the 12 bishops who prayed over Trump in the Oval Office on Saturday. “Where was the concern for the poor? For immigrant families being torn apart?” the sisters asked. By Sunday, two of the twelve had expressed regret. Milwaukee’s Archbishop Jeffrey Grob issued a public apology, and Des Moines Bishop William Joensen said the White House exploited the meeting for partisan purposes. On Monday, Kansas City Archbishop Shawn McKnight told TIME his predecessor went to the Oval Office “in his own individual capacity.” thelettersfromleo.com/p/new-…

Steven’s last big scoop.
We tracked down Graham Platner in Sullivan, Maine, where he’s returned to harvesting oysters. “What the f-k does it look like I’m up to? I’m being an oyster farmer,” he said a week before the midterm election.

Sister Nancy Sylvester: “How would you justify to people of faith, especially those of us who try to follow the Gospel, how the behavior of the ICE men and women can constantly be justified in terms of the kind of values we want to live by?” JD Vance: “Sometimes you have some people who really screw up.”

Sister Nancy Sylvester isn’t the first nun to challenge JD Vance. Before she died last November, Sister JoAnn Persch, who spent her life ministering to migrants, was asked what she made of the Catholic vice president. Her answer: “Pray, I guess.” thelettersfromleo.com/p/cath…

Fox: Why are you here this morning? Trump rally attendee: Well, in the late 70s, I was a little too young to go to South America for the Jonestown Massacre. But this is as close as I'll ever get, so that's why I'm here. There's nothing like seeing a cult right up front.

I would argue Mike Johnson is the least consequential House Speaker in United States history, but he was preceded by Kevin McCarthy, who lasted all of 10 months.

Imagine thinking James Talarico represents the death of humanity.
It's unbelievable. We are seeing the death of a civilization one bout of insanity at a time.

A Democratic federal candidate hasn’t won a statewide election in Texas in nearly 40 years.

Cotton is underperforming Trump by fifteen points. If every other Republican has a similar night, Democrats would win 54 Senate seats and 240 House seats.
Senator Tom Cotton heads into Election Day with a commanding lead in Arkansas, 51% to 37%, in a new GrayHouse poll of likely voters. With undecided voters who lean toward a candidate included, Cotton’s lead grows to 16 points, 55% to 39%. Cotton’s margin has also widened since our early-October poll, as Hallie Shoffner’s support slips in the final stretch.

🚨BREAKING: Adam Hamilton and Roger Marshall are now TIED in their odds to win the Kansas Senate race

Amen.
Q: Are you the one who’s going to turn Texas blue? @JamesTalarico: I’m not interested in turning Texas blue. I wanna win this seat so that I can fight for all 31 million Texans — whether they’re Democrats, independents, or Republicans. My party talks about turning Texas blue a lot. Republicans talk about keeping Texas red. I think the best color for Texas is purple. When you have a purple state and competitive elections, it forces every politician in both parties to stay on their toes. My hope in this race is that we can end 30 years of one-party rule and get competitive elections back in Texas so politicians are actually solving problems.
