i’ve been procrastinating on posting this wip for months but in honor of @maironcore’s amazing krkr au series coming to an end, and since it’s valentines day, i thought it’d be fitting to post today. yes this is basically my fanart of agi’s au kurapika in the near future 👁️

This ao3 discourse is so weird like if some authors are okay for their fics to be downloaded and shared in gdrive publicly by others then good for you but you can’t also demand other authors who are uncomfortable w/ their works being shared publicly to feel the same way as you?

idk bro you can’t get mad at authors for being upset their fics are floating around; you guys KNOW that like 90% of readers of these big drives are not gonna turn around and comment once ao3 comes back up. and that is! disheartening!

all I want to say in this ao3 conversation right now is that I love fic writers, and you deserve so much more than fandoms have ever given you. Fanfics are so often the backbone of a healthy fandom and I think it's time we started acknowledging it.

my whole timeline is variations of these two tweets a fanfic writer stating their clear boundary and someone else completely misinterpreting it making authors seem unreasonable (and then all the replies agreeing with them)

there's a download button on twitter as well for fanart, but if an artist asks you to not repost it, even with credit, you won't do it. so why can't you do the same for fic authors, genuinely do you think we're just a content machine? get your fic from LLMs then

omg the worst takes ever on tl about writer's rights over their fics💀like even if it's not protected in ao3 tos shouldn't you respect the author's wishes about reuploading on principle??? this is a fan space not a capitalistic hellscape

“i didn’t consent to people sharing my work” you kinda did when you uploaded it to the public archive with the big download button on it

“ao3 is public” yes it is. and so is twitter. you don’t take someone’s fanart from twitter and post it (with no permission) somewhere else where others can interact with it

downloading for personal use ≠ reposting it elsewhere. why is this such a hard concept to grasp

maybe if you can't understand that the problem isn't downloading fanfiction but mass-sharing it on an external site, you should read more to improve your reading comprehension

When u download FANART to use as ur phone wallpaper that's ok But if u upload it to another platform like tumblr, r34 or a drive, that's REPOSTING & Artists usually DONT approve Similarly AO3 writers are fine with you downloading fics to read but NOT with u REPOSTING it on drive
