Great halloween gift idea for a middle-reader kid! The Owl Motel: thought-provoking like the old "Twilight Zone" TV series but not gory or *too* scary. There's even a chilling sci-fi story! Only 99 cents, Kindle and $5.99, paperback. amazon.com/dp/B00HYP0OKK?ref… #Halloween #kidsbook

Vivek Buttswamy has ruined his own reelection chances due to a mean ad. This type of stupidity can’t be dreamed up. #Ohio #AmyActon

Saw this at a highway rest stop in Kentucky. What is this? A liquor bar table for your picnic?

From the 1959 Crisco cookbook, “Praise for the Cook” (i.e., “compliment the little woman.”) You can make a yellow cake, but if it’s for a MAN, you must alter it. Men don’t want milk, they want STRONG COFFEE! 💪 #Crisco #cakes #recipe #baking

Earlier today I posted about the prescient 1909 novel "The Machine Stops." I'm going to read it again. I've also found a 2019 article from the New Yorker that gives more detail (free, no paywall): newyorker.com/magazine/2019/… The book: amzn.to/3TubIYJ

A few days ago I learned of this 1909 book. It's so eerie, predicting our times. Everyone lives apart, connecting only through machine-based connection. It's a short (50-ish pages), powerful read I can't stop thinking about. How did Forster know in 1909? amzn.to/3TubIYJ

I can’t believe this is the U.S. #firingsquad #pentagon

New post coming on my blog in the next 24 hours. About creating the audiobook of "Lena, Wild Girl on the Prairie." Auditioning narrators, finding the verbal stumbling points, lots of listening. Plus my experience narrating a nonfiction book, in a studio. chuckmall.wordpress.com/

Are you one of those people (like me) who think Vans are straight-up the coolest shoes? Here's my trick: I go directly to sneakers in various colors to find the good ones (the link below). Xtra tip: look for "low in stock." mavely.app.link/lC0wiPQWZ6b

Did you watch "Lizzie Borden" on Netflix? Man, was it gory! But it was really funny in the mega-puking scene when the Borden parents were served bad oysters. This fascinating article tells how pudding poisoned a man. And it asks, are we still doing it? designobserver.com/adulterat…

Cooking is easy when your kitchen is really organized, If you're not organized person, like me, the inspiration & motivation comes from having the right containers. I'm not driving all the way to Charlotte for The Container Store. It's all online now! mavely.app.link/obAGAvAUZ6b

Uncertainty isn’t weakness, it’s an invitation. These words helped me in the arduous journey of writing fiction, and this piece from the Observatory Newsletter shows how to reframe uncertainty as innovation. designobserver.com/wracked-w… #innovation #business #creativity #doubt

Sharing a secret. At community potlucks, of which we have many in western NC, I'm often asked to bring "the Big Salad." It's 10ish veggies. It's EASY, but I don't tell them my secret: the KitchenAidGo Grater/Slicer/Shredder. mavely.app.link/JHmmMIwSZ6b

How did you get here? Any famous ancestors? I found SO many from WAY back--see pic. This is *relaxing* research, gets you away from TV bad news du jour, and is much easier than you think. You'll find old photos & stories, too. mavely.app.link/6kh4m5cOF6b
