My patient just compared me to baseball legend Bobbie Thomson (of "The giants in the pennant!" fame) because his surgery went so well. I think it's my favorite compliment ever. sabr.org/bioproj/person/bobb…

It was an honor to be part of the working group on this U.S. brief. This is our most important issue now. We must attend to the health implications of climate change and act now to reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Talk to friends and family. Contact your govt representatives.
Out now: The latest trends in public health and climate change as reported in The Lancet Countdown: Tracking Progress on Health and Climate Change, including a special brief on the west. @uoregon's @ellenpetersjdm is a lead reviewer for the U.S. Brief. sojc.link/lancet-2022

A common source of disappointment is recency bias: weighing the last week more heavily than the last year. Zooming in on the immediate past magnifies slumps. Zooming out farther reveals upward slopes. Progress is rarely visible at a snapshot in time. It unfolds over a lifetime.

I can't always change what is on my calendar or to-do list, but I can change how I view it. I can start my day asking: What do I have to do today? Or I can ask: What am I going to learn today? And that difference can have a tremendous impact on my motivation and joy.
