More than 1 in 4 trials in four leading medical journals set an upper age limit and gave no reason. Thake and colleagues, Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics, 2017, checked 4,341 trials published from 1998 to 2015 in the BMJ, Lancet, JAMA and New England Journal of Medicine. 1,258 (29 in 100) set an upper age limit, and 93 in 100 of those gave no reason. The share fell a little over the 18 years, but older people were still not well represented. When a trial leaves older people out, doctors have less direct evidence for the people who use the most medicines. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2861…

Baffles me an all!
Wigan has the most famous pier in the world, so why doesn't the council shout about it? I've been asking the question for years! #wigan #GeorgeOrwell #history

The crisis of over-prescribing costs the NHS an estimated £2.21 billion a year.
🚨 EXC: An over-prescribing epidemic is sending 1,000 elderly patients to A&E every single day - a consequence of a fragmented NHS unprepared for the ageing silver tsunami heading its way as 468k baby boomers turn 80 this year: thetimes.com/article/ddf452b…

Congratulations to my friend Andy Burnham on becoming leader of the Labour Party with a clear mission to transform Britain for the better. Today, we also thank Keir Starmer for bringing Labour back into government and guiding Britain through difficult times at home and abroad.

Oh dear. 7:27 and I’m already shouting @BBCRadio4 there are very few “forever drugs” most people in their later years need a medication review to reassess the risks/benefits of medicines taken for “prevention”. As we age, our physiological reserves to metabolise meds changes.

📣 Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) @veritypcos ✨
PCOS has a new name. It will now be known as Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS). A change that accurately reflects the condition affecting 3.1 million women and girls in the UK. This is the largest global engagement ever for a medical name change.

No - the UK has not legalised “abortion up to birth". We will not let misinformation go unchallenged. An important mythbuster from us 🧵👇

Today is the 33rd anniversary of the day the IRA bombed Warrington town centre and killed my son Tim and 3 yr old Johnathan Ball. Words can never describe how losing a child leaves a huge hole in your heart and your family. Eternal love Tim ❤️❤️
