Rolls up sleeves. I just had to see this before going to sleep: Darcy is not a myth. He is Austen’s design. She wrote the man who first insults Elizabeth in a crowded room and later crosses England to save the sister she loves, quietly, without seeking credit or gratitude. She wrote the letter that undoes every false impression. She wrote the walk at Pemberley where Elizabeth sees the true shape of his character for the first time. He wasn't in a ballroom, but in the place he has made into a home. She wrote the second proposal in which he offers her nothing but the proof that he has learned to value her judgment above his own pride. That is not Stockholm syndrome. That is the romance Austen chose to tell: two people of equal wit and unequal station who must each shed a false understanding of the other before they can meet as equals. Elizabeth’s prejudice is real; Darcy’s pride is real. Austen gives neither of them an easy victory. She gives them the harder gift of change. The man who begins as “tolerable” ends as the only person in the novel who can truly see Elizabeth’s mind and still desire her wholly. Austen did not invent him by accident. She built him, sentence by sentence, so that the moment he says he has been a selfish being all his life would land with the full weight of everything that came before. To call that arc a dangerous myth is to refuse the story she actually wrote. I will take Austen’s Darcy who is flawed, proud, capable of growth, and finally worthy over any modern rewrite that begins by deciding he was never the hero she intended.
This adaption was written by woman who hates Mr. Darcy. She's said “Him being held up as a romantic hero is a myth which has had a really insidious ripple effect on dating culture right up until now.” That many women had a kind of Stockholm syndrome to the character. And that he was a “conceited, bullish and rude snob who, as my fellow millennials would say, needs to check his privilege.”

If he keeps saying things like that, it will become impossible for Canadians to pay for their own drinks in any bar in the democratic world.

Ukraine isn’t asking the world to fight our war. We’re asking the world to stop rewarding the country that started it.

Canadians overwhelmingly reject Alberta separation, defeating a movement pushed by Russia & US influence networks, courted by US Trump officials and embroiled in controversy over US Republican-linked campaign apps and unlawfully obtained voter data.

President Zelensky refusing to surrender 20% of his country to Russia is not an “obstacle.” Russia demanding 20% of Ukraine is. You’re welcome. And #SlavaUkraïni

Childhood is a time of wonder, curiosity and discovery. Today, The Princess of Wales has commissioned @Earlychildhood to take forward new work examining how nature can support the healthy development of babies and young children, with a new programme set to launch next year. Supported by founding partner The Duchy of Cornwall, the work will explore how nature, creativity and relationships can help nurture the social and emotional skills that underpin lifelong health and wellbeing. 🌳

The United States convinced Ukraine to willingly give up their nuclear weapons by promising to protect them from Russian aggression. Here we are, decades later, betraying their trust. Those who support Vladimir Putin are the enemies of freedom and democracy
