“Our experiments suggest that small AI models may be months away from being capable enough to self-replicate on commercial IoT devices, like smart ovens and off-brand Android TV boxes. A replicator like this would be challenging to shut down, since there’s no centralized point to shut off - though it may be slow (with a doubling time of days). Unlike non-AI malware, it could also figure out unfamiliar devices on its own. In our evals, a 9B model got inference running on 8 of the 9 hardware types we tested.
Models of 30B parameters and under can already complete many of the individual steps for replication today, though they make mistakes when composing them end to end. In our simplified evals, GLM-5.2 and stronger models are capable of end to end replication. If small models improve at their historical rate, they’ll match this capability level by the end of this year. Small weight-based replicators may be possible soon after.” -@bucketofkets @willzhou97

“Theoretical bound” this; “new algorithm” that. Brother, it has all been solved years ago by Sergey Slotin in Algorithmica, “Algorithms for Modern Hardware”
This is probably how mechinterp feels like

What should I even tweet about, I basically can’t talk about anything gpu / perf related without leaking alpha
>IoT device has usb c
>it doesn’t have a 5.1k pull down resistor on CC1/2 so usb c <-> usb c charging doesn’t work
>mfw I have to go digging for usb a <-> c cables

i'm sorry but if openai hears 'anthropic solved navier stokes' and races to throw a bunch of agents on it, without any information on your approach, and the agents discover the same thing (and more), still offer you dual credit in goodwill, that is totally above board
this all comes down to whether or not openai heard of tristan buckmaster's approach beforehand and seeded the model with that context. openai seems to completely deny this
there is no chance that any researcher spied on buckmaster's chats (you have to jump through multiple security and legal hoops to even get the initial credentials to access any user data, no way) and i'd be very surprised if any of buckmaster's chats were trained on at all. it's just not how modern LLM training is done
We’re sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, one of the deepest problems at the frontier of mathematics.
The proof was produced by a group of agents, using an OpenAI next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra.
The problem concerns whether the description of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations can break down. It has remained unresolved for roughly 90 years.

hey Astra, how fast are you really at using a computer?
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The video shows Astra executing a pre-planned batched sequence of mouse clicks, keyboard presses and timed waits, not live real-time high-speed control. The poster clarified hybrid inputs and advance planning in replies.

As we prepare to release Astra, we’re focused on making increasingly capable AI safe and broadly accessible.
Astra represents a significant advance in cybersecurity capability, reaching the Critical threshold under our Preparedness Framework.
We're previewing how we evaluated the model, how its safeguards have advanced alongside its capabilities, and what we'll continue to learn and improve.
