To the BYU haters:
First, you're biased but too ignorant to realize it. It's a deep religious bias you don't even realize you have, but you do have it.
Second, refs make mistakes every game but the impact tends to even out. In this game, BYU easily got the worst of it. Huge PI miss in the first half and a huge touchdown callback that would have put us up 18. Plus, the lucky Irish were gifted the ball inside our 20 twice. There's no mistaking Carr's fumble to end the first. But I do agree the last call could have been PI. So what. We could have still stopped ND on the goal line and won. So if that's your ultimate take, it's a weak one.
Third, our D is longer, more athletic, and quicker than Notre Dame's (and most of America's). This is the greatest defense we've ever had and were an NFL linebacker factory.
Fourth, we'd go 10-2 in the Big-10 or SEC this year and make the playoff anyway, so stop whining our schedule is soft. We're top five in wins in the last 5 years nationally and we consistently beat whoever is in front of us except for Texas Tech. (If you don't believe that, check our record against Texas, Oklahoma, USC, UCLA, and Ole Miss in the last 20 years.)
Fifth, read the first four again and go play a video game to recharge.
See you in the playoff this year and don't bet against us.

Precisely C.S. Lewis's point in The Screwtape Letters: the enemy doesn't need to ruin you, he only needs to distract you.
Screwtape finds that a reliable way to lead a patient to hell is to distract him with jargon, for instance. Have the patient evaluate ideas not by their content but by their labels ensures that he never engages meaningfully with their content.
Another method is to fix his attention on the "stream of immediate sense experiences," so that his mind is drawn away from universal issues and he no longer thoughtfully engages with things that matter.
The path to hell is not so much paved by grand sins than it is by small, constant distractions from what really matters. The path to goodness begins with reclaiming your attention, and turning your eyes from the endless stream.
Wasting time "doomscrolling" is not neutral. It distracts you from doing good in the world.

Some observations on pro golf after watching it for 40 years (it's bad):
1) Golf has never been more boring. No after-turkey Skins Game, no Hawaii to open the season, fragmented talent, etc
2) The condensed major season takes a lot of juice out of the game. No PGA in August, are you kidding me? The FedExCup money grab was the downfall of the majors. Golfers play more in the summer and want to anticipate a final major before school sets in for families.
3) The bomb-and-gouge play style is just ugly. I grew up watching real sticks curve balata 90s. Just watch a top-50 80s/90s pro such as Jodie Mudd and you'll understand. I like Bryson but his game is ugly.
4) Scottie S is incredibly boring to watch. Actually more boring than Faldo which is hard to accomplish (Faldo is a pretty interesting announcer though).
5) The Tour misses personalities like Captain America. The 80s/90s had assassins like Lanny, Ray, Curtis, Vijay, etc. We have snowflakes like Wyndham Clark and Cam Young. Clark and Young couldn't beat Lee Jansen.
6) Strange vs Faldo, Norman vs Faldo, Vijay vs Ernie, Ernie vs Tiger, Tiger vs Phil, Seve vs Zinger in RCs - these were must-see TV.
7) The tour is so boring, I often watch college golf or the LPGA for my golf fix.
8) Phil is easily the 2nd best golfer in the last 30 years.
9) Adam Scott is easily the best player who got the least out of his talent (and he's had a good career).
10) Big money has made pro golfers soft. I miss the grinders.
