I really believe our education system is broken and needs to take a hard look at itself. I often think about who we hire as teachers and school leaders. Too often, it seems like we hire people who follow directions, don’t ask questions, and just do what they’re told. One question I think we should ask in every interview is, “What have you created?”
It doesn’t even have to be related to education. Have you built something, solved a problem, or found a better way to do something? We tell students to be creative, think for themselves, and solve problems, but are we hiring teachers and leaders who actually do those things?
I worry we’re losing that part of education. We need more people who aren’t afraid to think differently, try new things, and make things better.

🟡St. Laurence (5-6) won their third straight game, all on the road. Leading the way in the 28-13 victory at Plainfield South was junior QB Noah Taylor, who threw for 238 yards and 2 TD and ran for an even 100 yards. The Vikings jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but the Cougars closed the gap to one at halftime. The Viking defense slammed the door, holding Armani Ford and the Cougars scoreless from then on. Keynan Morgan and David Campbell ran for scores, while Jackson Kavois and DaKarai Simmons hauled in touchdown passes. St. Laurence now returns home for the first time in four weeks.
🟠Next Game: Home vs. Lincoln-Way West (7-4), 2:00 Saturday
The Warriors may have lost five games on the field in the regular season (their loss to Kankakee became a forfeit win), but they are as battle-tested as anyone. They handled Mundelein easily in the opening round and then won at Plainfield North on Friday night, 21-7. The Warriors’ line play is good on both sides of the ball. They’re looking for their seventh trip to the quarterfinals, an impressive number for a school with a fairly brief history.
☑️Illinois Media poll: Unranked
🗓️Schedule: Extremely tough - 51 opponents’ wins, 3 ranked teams, 2 RV
🏈Scoring averages: Offense 21.5 / Defense 15.3
🏆Best regular season win: Week 8 vs. Lincoln-Way Central, 14-10
↔️Common opponent: Both teams won at Belleville East. The Warriors beat the Lancers 24-7 in Week 1, and the Vikings beat them 25-16 in the opening round of the playoffs.
👀One player to watch: Is it cheating to say the entire defense? Nick Elstner is good on the back end, but there’s a lot of quality players here who work well together.

The main tenets of Chicago's offense translate to the high school and college game very well.
The 2025 Chicago Bears Complete Offensive Manual is now available!
This is my proudest work. It is the most detailed and expansive breakdown of an NFL offense you will find.
The amount of nuance and variety in Ben Johnson’s offense forced the page count up to 514, making it my most comprehensive book by large margin.

Ben Johnson is elite at the art of play calling. This is different than standing in front of the chalk board to install. This requires feel for a game. I've never bought the notion that once the game plan has been made, "anybody can call it, most of the work has been done". This is one of the biggest fallacies in football.

"I have no problems putting Blake in a game, because I know what I'm gonna get from him."
#Illini Brad Underwood was really happy to see Blake Fagbemi knock down a pair of threes late in the exhibition win over UIC:
"That young man all spring has the most attempts in our practice gym working on his jump shot... everybody said he couldn't shoot."
