Last Friday: COBEC held a community sensitization in Mida Creek on WHY mangroves thrive in some areas & not others. We covered planting measures & key parameters before & during planting supported by @gotbag #MidaCreek

🌱 Small seedlings, big future! Yesterday in Mida Creek we documented thriving mangrove regeneration — a testament to community resilience, ecosystem recovery & partnership. Thanks to @TreeNation for supporting @cobecnet & the women of Mida Creek restoring our coast.

Trained & Equipped! COBEC with the support of @BlueVentures trained & handed over data collection materials to 4 community data collectors — 2 in Marereni and 2 in Gongoni BMUs. They are now tracking fish catches to monitor stocks & guide decisions on fishing practices

We completed 2 days restoring a highly degraded Rhizophora mucronata forest. Hundreds of stumps — a forest almost lost. But look closer: new green shoots are back. Hope is in the mud. The photo says it all. @habitat

Last week in Mida Creek we planted Avicennia marina seedlings with support from TreeNation. 🌱🌧️Rainy season gives them the best start to grow into a forest that fights climate change. #Mangroves #mangroverestoration @treenation

From degraded to recovering. 🌊🌱 In Mida Creek, we restored hydrology first, then planted _Avicennia marina_. Fix the water, then plant the forest. Progress through science, community, and patience. #Mangroves #MidaCreek #Restoration #WetlandsInternational #MangroveChampions

Last week in Marereni, we conducted a (CBEMR) training with conservation groups and community scouts. The biggest eye-opener was successful restoration doesn't start with planting. It starts with understanding the site.( what happened to the site? Is the hydrology functioning?

What if mangroves could tell the story of their community? In Marereni FGD, we heard: "They are our enemies. They cut us." You can restore a forest without fixing why it was degraded. Before we restore, we listen. > 🌱 Planting is an output. A standing forest is an outcome

A joint patrol in the mangrove @ecosystem by the COBEC team, Kenya Forest Service, Community Forest Association, and community scouts is vital for sustainable management by preventing illegal activities like tree cutting and charcoal burning and Protecting marine biodiversity.

COBEC's one-and-a-half-year-old mangrove plantation signifies a critical stage of recovery and resilience within the mangrove ecosystem. At this age, the young mangroves have established strong root systems that stabilize the soil, reduce erosion, and enhance tidal water flow.

ast week, the COBEC team conducted a biodiversity assessment in the Marereni mangrove ecosystem. These activities help in understanding species-habitat relationships, ecosystem dynamics, and provide valuable data for conservation and sustainable management. @sustainsurf
