this will be even funnier in a few months if he's proven right
if you're a journalist, I would LOVE to read the "we sat down with ed zitron and asked him why he thought he got it wrong so often" article. i want you to hold truth to power

They extract all of the person’s wealth until they qualify for medicaid, at which point the state pays for whatever time they have left. This is explicitly the business model. This will become extremely politically salient in the coming years.
I genuinely don’t understand how ordinary people are supposed to afford assisted living for their aging parents. Some facilities charge upwards of $10,000 A MONTH. That’s $120,000 a year just to make sure your parents are properly cared for. How is the average family supposed to afford that?

pro tip: if you have a coding interview you can now just say you would encode the problem as 3-SAT and solve it in subexponential time

Anthropic listed OpenAI and Google as the primary competitors in their field which is correct but they also should have listed Meituan because it both would have been really funny to pick a random smaller lab and it would have been incredible to watch people learn Chinese DoorDash has an ai lab

As a U.S. immigration attorney, I occasionally get (and have to refer out) outbound immigration requests from U.S. citizens. The amount of shocked faces I get when I explain “Yeah, so every country has their own immigration laws,” is honestly so funny, lol

They'd rather sit back in the cuck chair and let LLMs live their lives for them than admit that maybe our chosen struggles have importance beyond the "intellectual contributions" made in the service of a broken, antihuman economy that would see us all living in absolute squalor
You might have 1–5 years to contribute intellectually to the world before AGI. What should you do with them? Excellent advice from @jaschasd (Anthropic) at Stanford. Skip Netflix tonight and watch this instead.

an unspoken upside of the synecdoche of the minority the downsides ("wow-girls-suck-at-math" xkcd) are fairly well-understood, but one of my favorite parts about travel is i can go be a total weirdo and the response isn't "damn, that guy is weird" it's "damn, Americans are weird"
if you're in a random city full of people you'll never see again you can just talk to yourself out loud on the street like a AAA video game character

its the sleep deprivation from having kids. I'd hate to break it to you, but it prob is that unfortunately.
I think the scariest prospect about aging for me is how 75% of people seem to become mentally handicapped after the age of 30. Like how do you avoid that? Is it not having kids? Having kids seems like it might be a big factor to me honestly

Watched Wildwood. The mom sitting next to me pulls out the biggest ipad I’ve ever seen, cranks it up to max brightness, and hands it to her kid. Halfway through the iPad dies. Kid turns to mom, “Can I watch the movie?” The kids are alright but their parents are not

The gradual decline in accent is simply remarkable. Starts out rolling his r’s, starts to lose it by the middle of the clip, landing firmly on Mallu English accent at the end.

I did that at Twitter, leaving in April 2022 before Elon did his bullshit. Best business decision ever
Remembering some advice I received from a dotcom graybeard: In a layoff tsunami you want to be first to look for a job. The guy who is "valuable" and hangs on to the very end finds himself looking for a job in a completely saturated market. Go early.

“I do feel a bit like my brain is leaking out of my skull when I spend a whole day using it.”
We obviously haven’t had the major jobs wipeout yet. But you read stuff like this. And you read what economics students themselves are saying about working with AI (ht @odavis_h) and it’s hard not to feel like the seismic shift is on its way.

reactionaries hollowed out the American soft power apparatus that was used to flip past Brazilian elections specifically bc they’re too stupid to understand that the woke USAID facade was the velvet glove concealing the iron fist of American hegemony. you need both to do this
USAID probably could've stolen that election for bolsonaro, if only the evil leftists in charge of the US hadn't dismantled it
