In 1968, a small group of Irish people saw suffering and famine in Biafra, and they didn’t wait for the world to act. Our community has grown, but our mission remains the same - because ending extreme poverty, wherever it is in the world, is our Concern. #ItsOurConcern #ConcernWorldwide

When communities choose dialogue, shared resources and peace follow. 🕊️ With funding from @Irish_Aid through @Concern , @RACIDA_Ngo facilitated an inter-community dialogue in Ashabito and Mandera West to promote resource sharing, conflict prevention, and environmental stability. The dialogue brought together neighboring communities; Degodia and Garre community members along the Gofa, Eriskinto, and Takaba corridor. Elders from both sides agreed to restore normalcy through free movement and shared use of resources. Implemented by @RACIDA_Ngo in partnership with @Concern, funded by @Irish_Aid. @IrlEmbKenya @ConcernKenya @Mandera_cgvt #HanaanoProgramme #ManderaTriangle #RACIDA #IrishAid #ConcernWorldwide #Peacebuilding #NRM #CommunityDialogue

"The solutions to prevent and end malnutrition exist. They have been tried and tested by organisations like Concern and there are decades of evidence and experience that show how best this can be done. "Malnutrition is not inevitable. Decisive and timely investment in nutrition generates lasting social and economic gains" — our CEO Dominic Crowley writing in today's @IrishTimes on the impending global food crisis. ⏬ bit.ly/4ewiPXE

Tomorrow, Concern will host an Associated Event of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026, focused on the future of EU leadership on food security, nutrition and fragility. With conflict, climate shocks and pressure on aid budgets threatening progress, we will draw on the new #GenerationNutritionpolicy brief, "Reaffirming EU Leadership in Global Food Security and Nutrition" and discuss how we can: * Protect investment in nutrition; * Reach people in fragile and conflict-affected settings; * Build on the EU’s leadership beyond 2027. We are delighted to welcome a keynote address from Minister of State Neale Richmond, Chair of the DEVE Committee, MEP Barry Andrews and closing remarks from DG for Development Cooperation and Africa Division of Irish Aid, Michael Gaffey. El Niño is back – and it is hitting communities hard. Over 50 million more people are facing severe hunger, many already battered by conflict and climate shocks. The consequences could be devastating. We must act now to protect the communities before impacts do the worst.

On October 27, Concern Worldwide will host “Food Security, Nutrition and Fragility: Strengthening EU Policy and Financing Responses” — an official Associated Event of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026. Policymakers and practitioners will consider how the EU can protect progress on nutrition, sustain effective investment and ensure financing reaches people living in the most fragile contexts. The conversation will include detail from the latest Progress Report on the EU Action Plan on Nutrition, which highlights both investment and political leadership have delivered real progress against hunger and malnutrition. But these gains cannot be taken for granted. At next week’s event, we will discuss how we can protect these gains, at a time of global fiscal constraints and an unprecedented contraction in ODA, prioritising nutrition is both a moral imperative and a high-yield investment. As the EU shapes the next MFF, protecting ODA and human development targets is essential for our shared future. During Ireland’s #EUPresidency2026, the EU has a defining opportunity to keep food security and nutrition central to its future policy and financing priorities.

The next time you hear about cuts to official development assistance and international humanitarian funding, be aware of what exactly that means. In yesterday's Irish Times, Concern Worldwide staff spelt out the impact of these cuts in #Liberia, #Somalia and #Sudan. It means rising malnutrition, shortfalls in vital supplies, and the absence of support at times of impending humanitarian crises. Cuts cost lives. bit.ly/4yVQnGM

Concern warmly welcomes the increased funding allocation in #Budget2027 for official development assistance, announced today. “At a time when many donor countries are cutting their aid budgets, Ireland’s continued commitment to a strongly values-based approach to international development is particularly important,” CEO Dominic Crowley said. "Today’s Budget recognises the vital role of ODA in supporting people facing acute need, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected states." “Ireland’s continued support for ODA, and its leadership in tackling extreme poverty and responding to and preventing humanitarian need, is valued both at home and around the world.” Full statement: ⤵️ bit.ly/3W9TcWa

Concern's programmes are broad, but gender equality, the focus of today’s #WomenofConcern event, underpins all of our work because it shapes people’s exposure to poverty and crisis, their access to resources and services, and their ability to influence decisions that affect their lives.
