Well, duh. If other cities in other countries are doing things right, copy them. From Austria rent control through to Norwegian sovereign wealth funds, from the federal level down to the municipal. Steal good ideas, wherever you find them.

Had we started on these in the 90s, rather than let affordable housing simply die, we might not be in the pickle we're in today. Have to try anything and everything at this point, even if we've gone too far, prices are simply too high.

FFS... really? How about searching for candidate names & reading up on their platforms? Maybe attend a town hall or debate? Heck, you could phone or email them & ask questions. But no, take the lazy route, ask a frickin' prediction engine who to vote for.

BradBrad will tank the city's finances, he will most definitely not help with housing or affordability, no matter what he says. And he should know better, he's a planner. But he flip-flopped into populism in his attempt to climb the municipal ladder.

Even if it gets bid up a bit, that would still be a steal. Nice little house, better than an equivalent condo. Great yard. And what a location, I grew up just around the corner from there.

As demand dropped, it took pressure off, which let prices fall. But, if supply doesn't continue to grow, demand will return, and the same old imbalance will start to put upward pressure on pricing again.

Another month and yet more people buying new houses and not buying new condos. Semis and towns are the big draws. Consumers don't want investor-driven ant farms in the sky...

I love it! Looks like a fancy little English cottage. I bet it smells like cookies...

Not sure what favourable market conditions they mean. Mortgage rates are about to go up. The economy is still in flux. Cost of living is high. Tariffs, trade war, etc. But, it would not be hard to see sales up 5% in 2027, as they were pretty low this year.
toronto.citynews.ca/2026/10/…
So people bought more new towns and semis. Shows they want larger homes, but less expensive. They don't want small condos and probably can't afford detached. So the middle properties are selling best.

Don't forget, any project announced today is 5-10 years from completion. The market today is not as relevant as you'd think, to future projects. Learn, yes, but move forward regardless.

They won't start selling like they did in the past, if they ever will again, until they pivot. They need to offer product designed for end-users, for people to live in them, rather than for investors. And they need to be more affordable. Full stop.

That was actually a rather interesting and thorough discussion of setbacks. Worth a read.

Boo! That cluster of buildings is a great example of mid-century modernist construction. I thought some of them were actually heritage.

And that will slow real estate even more. Especially as we move into the normally slow winter. Nice weather might offset some of it, but it will be dreary for home sales, that's for sure.

Chow will likely create housing. BradBrad will crater the city's finances. You don't have to like either one of them, but only Brad² is going to fiscally ruin the city.

Interest rates are holding people back. Economic uncertainly is certainly a major player. And buyers are wondering if prices will still fall further, they don't want to buy now, when they might be able to pay less in a few months.

No one is surprised. New housing has slowed to a crawl. Everything from sales to construction is happening a lot slower. Confidence, consumer and developer, is at an all time low.
