Thank you to all MPs and Peers who have worked to end live exports in Parliament for years. And to all the orgs, campaigners and public who have tirelessly worked to end this vile trade. GB is the first in Europe to ban live animal exports & we hope other countries will introduce their own bans

Frankenchickens are fast-growing chickens bred to reach slaughter weight in just a few weeks. Many suffer painful leg and bone problems, struggling to move, lameness and heart failure. A shift to slower-growing breeds gives birds more time to develop and can improve their welfare. End the use of #Frankenchickens

I'm very pleased that the Government has launched a consultation on the CO2 stunning of pigs. This is a very serious animal welfare issue that needs to be addressed, and I'm looking forward to working with experts and stakeholders to ensure we take action on this.
Lots of people have written to me about the CO2 stunning of pigs. As a vet, and as someone who had kept pigs in the past, this practice is something that really upsets me. This is cruel and needs to be phased out, so I brought this up in Parliament.

Our Patron @SirRogerGale spoke in tonight’s Westminster Hall debate in support of a compassionate change to the law: requiring drivers to stop and report collisions with cats, ensuring injured animals receive help and owners are not left in distress and uncertainty. Cats are recognised as family members by millions of households, yet current legislation does not require any action when a cat is struck by a vehicle

Our Head of Research & vet Dr Steven McCulloch urged for an end to the use of CO2 to slaughter pigs at our reception at #CPC26 earlier this month before MPs, Shadow Defra Ministers and a packed room. His speech reveals why this suffering for millions of pigs in the UK must end:

Do you have ideas on how we can continue to improve animal welfare standards? We're consulting on proposals to phase out high concentration CO₂ stunning of pigs and want to hear views from farmers, processors, welfare organisations and the public: gov.uk/government/consultati…

The @DefraGovUK Minister @StephenMorganMP has announced new plans to end carbon dioxide stunning of pigs to prevent suffering. ‘High concentration carbon dioxide is widely used to stun pigs in British slaughterhouses, but independent evidence has highlighted serious concerns about the suffering it causes animals.  The government has now put forward proposals to replace the practice with more humane alternatives, such as argon gas and automated electrical stunning. Both methods are proven to substantially reduce animal suffering’ gov.uk/government/news/new-p…

Millions of laying hens are crammed in cages on factory farms. Hens need space to forage, dust-bathe and spread their wings. We urge the government to turn its consultation into legislation. End cages for laying hens

We joined 9 animal protection organisations with one message for @Pret -show us the plan. Pret committed to ending the use of Frankenchickens back in 2018. Last week we published an open letter to CEO Pano Christou, asking for a phased plan to deliver it, with verifiable steps starting next year. Swipe to hear from each signatory: instagram.com/p/DetluX2FlxQ/…

More than two years after Labour took office, there has still been no Government Bill to advance animal welfare at all. The government’s promises have yet to be matched by legislation. We call for the government to fulfil its commitments and take action to advance animal welfare. Actions speaker louder than words
