we quickly forget how “recent” many things are, as in— they occur WELL into the historical period. We see “civilization” beginning around 3000 BC or so. But Indian caste endogamy doesn’t start until 110 AD. Latin literature doesn’t appear until the 200s BC
The caste system crystallized thousands of tears after the migration of "Aryan" people and preceded by a 1000 year period of relative exogamy.

The fact that there’s any kind of cultural continuity at all from the events of the Trojan war to today or the Shang dynasty to the modern Chinese is the actual miracle. The world as we know it isnt descended from the dawn of history but peoples & practices that appeared recently

Vivek’s campaign was political malpractice from root to fruit. Seriously, Ohio is a deep Red state, which means the GOP can run low-variance strategies and win. How hard would it have been for Vivek to grow a rugged designer stubble, wear a denim jacket over flannel, and then sit around with a pulled-pork sandwich and beer and talk about “Ohio values,” and then complain about Amy Acton doing her transgender sh*t. Vivek’s the candidate for you and me, Acton is the candidate for the purple-haired they/thems. Instead he has to fly around in a private jet, be the clean-cut billionaire in a suit, and talk about year-round school.
The moment I had an inkling that Vivek Ramaswamy wasn’t winning over some rural Ohioans was when I asked a group of middle-aged Republican farmers in rural Henry County what they thought about the Governor’s race. All three burst into laughter, shaking their heads and groaning. While they didn’t like Amy Acton’s covid policies, they also had caveats to Ramaswamy - like him being a vegetarian, or a billionaire. One said it a successful businessman might manage the state budget well, but then added it “scares us too, because he could be just crooked.”

Yes, if your behavior persists and escalates to the point of absurdity, your behavior becomes a punchline. You can argue this isn’t fair, but that’s the way life works and you start to come across as a crank if you keep babbling about Hasan Piker and the Muslim Brotherhood
🚨 “Oh, for Fuck’s Sake, I Forgot to Ask Him If He Disavows the Muslim Brotherhood”: How One of the World’s Most Notorious Islamist Movements Became a Punchline I spliced Jon Stewart’s backstage exchange with his team to the beginning because I couldn’t get over how ridiculous it was. Stewart realizes he forgot to ask Abdul El-Sayed whether he disavows the Muslim Brotherhood. The joke escalates from there, making the question itself seem absurd, almost as though the very act of raising the subject is something to be laughed off rather than seriously examined. In the original sequence, this exchange comes at the end of a discussion in which El-Sayed argues that the media ask him “gotcha” questions that have little to do with what voters actually care about. Stewart sympathizes with that argument, and the Muslim Brotherhood question becomes an example of the media’s supposed absurdity. The recent focus on El-Sayed’s alleged connections to the Muslim Brotherhood didn’t materialize out of nowhere. El-Sayed’s own half-sister, with whom he shares a mother, has publicly alleged family ties to the organization in a tweet. Yet that context goes unexplored, even as the issue is reduced to a media “gotcha” question, and that’s before we even get to the alleged connections on El-Sayed’s wife’s side of the family.

Is "Indian nepotism" real? Maybe. Immigrant-founded firms tend to employ a lot of coethnics—especially for groups that don't really know English. Chinese founders fill 45% of first hires with Chinese, Mexicans 31%, and Poles 27%. Indians are at 21%, below the immigrant average.
Indian nepotism isn’t real, right?

The killer has likely spent every day for months/years threatening/acting aggressively toward riders, dating them to react, until someone finally did. This killing wasn't his first antisocial act.
7th homicide this yr in subway, 3x higher than usual before 2020 and NYT offers: “Still, this year remains the second safest in the transit system in 15 years”

Attending top tier college and law school teaches you that you will be rewarded for being “clever” and people like Vivek keep chasing that high and think people will admire him for statements like this.
Vivek Ramaswamy just now on the ad with Acton’s estranged mother: “We ran an ad about lying. Amy Acton is lying. … It had nothing to do with childhood abuse, which I will be the number one governor to prosecute when I am the governor of this state because it is wrong.”

But southern whites would have argued that it was necessary and good to stunt the South’s development potential because they felt they lived better that way. You hear echoes of this today when people say “America isn’t an economic zone” as a reason to remove successful immigrants
Even setting aside the moral imbecility of an arbitrary color-coded social caste system, it was a demonstrable fact that Jim Crow stunted the South’s development potential and economic diversification. You didn’t need to be “woke” by modern standards to realize that you didn’t want your society to be like the postbellum/pre-Civil Rights South.

Ma’am, when you pick up your kids from school today, I invite you to speak to the other moms and read this tweet to them.
Hey Amy, you’ve really confused me, and millions like me! 🛑 You said you were sexually abused between the ages of 9 and 12 by your stepfather! Why didn’t you tell anyone for three years—a schoolteacher, your doctor, Why did you wait three years? Why did your own biological father allow that to happen for all three years? STRANGE! 🛑 You’ve said your mother knew about the sexual abuse. Why would she do that? I mean, what would she gain? 🛑 Your mother is a very well-educated woman with a master’s degree in public administration and worked at Children and Family Associates in one of the first few sexual abuse programs! How did she end up getting that job helping victims of sexual abuse? I don’t understand! 🛑 Your mother gave an interview calling you a liar and disputing all your claims in June 2020. Why didn’t you respond publicly at that time? 🛑 This is very difficult for me to understand: you said you “did have food to eat.” 🛑 Was your stepfather convicted? Are there any court documents or police reports? I mean court documents or police reports—NOT A COMMUNITY NOTE, PLEASE! & Strangely: 🛑 Where in that ad does your mother say anything about your sexual abuse? She just denied your claim of living in a tent! Why did you connect that to your claim of sexual abuse? She never used the words “sexual abuse”—at least in this video! We all sympathize with any difficulties you’ve gone through. BUT… 🛑 Why don’t you hold a press conference and explain all this to the people of Ohio and all of us who are concerned? FINALLY: 🛑 Do you want Ohioans to vote for you just because of your unverified claim of a difficult childhood 50 years ago? 🛑

Court records show Cledith Arthur was charged with raping Acton in 1978 after her biological father reported the abuse; he was indicted but fled before trial, remaining a fugitive. “My mom … uses Halloween as an opportunity to share the gospel by attaching Bible verses to candy, making Scripture signs for her front lawn, and sharing the love of Jesus with the families who come to her door.” I am begging parents to stop being weird
How should Christians approach Halloween? Christians tend to fall into four different camps when it comes to participating in Halloween: - Total abstinence - Full participation - Partial participation - Redemptive participation Some abstain from Halloween altogether. Others fully participate in the festivities, while some enjoy the family fun without participating in the glorification of evil. I believe the better alternative is redemptive participation. My mom has set this example for me for years. She uses Halloween as an opportunity to share the gospel by attaching Bible verses to candy, making Scripture signs for her front lawn, and sharing the love of Jesus with the families who come to her door. As she says, “What other time of year do you have people coming to your home and asking you for something? This is like the easiest evangelism opportunity possible.” A night associated with darkness can actually be an opportunity to shine the light of Christ.

I don't understand why right-wingers are still acting like immigrants to France aren't integrating when French migrants are so obviously assimilating into important aspects of traditional French culture like rioting and pedophilia

Vivek Ramaswamy seeks to take political advantage of the fact that his opponent was raped as a child. But to his credit, unlike many other Republican politicians, he was not personally the rapist in question.

Claiming that the problems of NYC pubiic schools are caused by “segregation” is a convenient way to avoid acknowledging the structural and budgetary problems that plague the school system so they can claim that the solution is something that can never fully be satisfied
