Most everyday domination doesn't look like oppression. It looks like normal, socially acceptable behavior.

Some protocols do not have freeze functions. Why are ppl surprised by this?

The early internet was a graveyard of abandoned experiments too, all that diversity and creativity gradually collapse into a handful of platforms controlling how billions of people interact. I'm much more worried about Ethereum repeating that history than about dead dapps.
I tried to test my wallet with Ethereum dapps, and I realized that most of them are dead, Most finance dapps are shut down, or are on chains that are essentially dead, Topics other than DeFi are all dead, DAOs are dead, NFTs are dead, POAP is dead, gaming is dead, Some social apps are still alive, but they buried the "Connect wallet" button, And they still ask for your email, to send you a magic link, the wallet part is completely optional, For the first time in Ethereum history, it seems the only usecase of dapps is trading, Sad observation

It's interesting how different anarcho-capitalism seems in American and European circles. European anarchism has a long history of questioning both state and economic domination. American ancaps often seem focused only on the state.

Maybe that's why the idea of network states is so appealing to them. Escape the old state, build a new one where they can finally be free. They imagine a world without rulers, but somehow always leave room for themselves to become one.

Imagine growing up in a family that doesn't care what you think, because they already know what you should think. Imagine having no friends you can speak openly with. Imagine being surrounded by people your entire life, yet having nowhere you can truly be yourself.

I thought Ethereum would be the place where I could finally be myself. Among people who questioned authority, valued freedom, and listened to each other. however, I did not find such people.

Just as Ethereum needs multiple client implementations, it should have multiple implementations of Devcon. Two, three, or more equally significant conferences, independently organized and funded. Not one giant event at the center of the ecosystem, backed by the EF.

Ideally, there would be thousands of independently organized gatherings around the world. Small enough for real conversations, distributed enough that nobody becomes the center. We wouldn't need these massive conferences at all. The community itself would be the conference.

What if the real problem isn't that THEY want to dominate us, but that WE keep building a world where everyone dreams of becoming them?

To fight centralization, let's fly 10,000 people to one centralized conference to hear why centralization is bad.

When I founded W3PN, I envisioned a society organizing decentralized privacy-focused events across Europe, and eventually the world. Instead, it turned into one massive centralized conference nobody really needed (cYpHeRpUnK cOnGreSs) Reality always catches up with you.

That idea felt genuinely exciting and full of potential 3 years ago. I even explored ways to fund local organizers through a "protocol guild" model and similar approaches... But no one cared.

Devcon is full of people who want to decentralize the world, but somehow still believe that changing the world means gathering around the same center.

I always imagined Devcon and CCC as mythical gatherings of people building a world without rulers. Now I suspect 99% of them just want to become better rulers.

The most disgusting thing about Web3 is the fake friendliness. Everyone loves you until you disagree with them. Then you discover they never wanted friends, just people who clap.

If Ethereum offers the same celebrities, hierarchies and competition as Solana, just with less money, why would young people choose Ethereum?

Ethereum wonders why young people aren't coming. But what are we offering them? The same world of domination: celebrities to worship, leaders to follow, rewards to compete for. crypto promised an escape from this culture. Instead, it reproduced it.
The real reason crypto feels pessimistic these days is because everyone is getting older and not enough young people are coming to replace them. This should be fixed with more efforts targeting young people jaded by the current world, and trust me, there are many. Give them an outlet to: > program value > build community and meet people from around the world > try creative fundraisers to co-own things with an internet community > push a movement for freedom > be a decentralizing force to centralizing ai > fight for privacy The largest problem remains the boomerification of the industry. It feels less dreamy because of it.
