It's my job to teach med students direct, accurate communication with patients. I reckon patients should have access to this knowledge. Some useful patient phrases translated into hospital-speak: "please explain this further so I can decide if I consent'

It exists to reinsert workers into work when they'd naturally be grieving, spending time w community, making life changes or otherwise stepping away from productivity. It enforces this by threatening diagnoses & drugs on those who don't return to full productivity immediately.
What's your most controversial opinion about therapy?

Adding my hot tip: Listening empowers the speaker. Listening is something you can & should withdraw from any speaker whose message you don't endorse. I stand up & quietly walk out of the room multiple times during every family gathering. Any time someone starts getting fashy.

@SimonAmstell very much want to thank you for the greatest piece of holiday family gathering advice I ever heard; don't ever expect it to be any different than it was the last time. That and "you don't have to be the host of every interaction." Both absolute gamechangers 💜👍

Was about to upload this to elephant site when I saw a toot that said "your toots are not gifts to your audience". I immediately realised I was putting this gift under the wrong tree.

When I take my 6 foot 6 family member with me into a health care setting, suddenly all medical things about me are trusted to be exactly as I say they are. Family member doesn't even have to say anything, just sits quietly in the corner in officewear.

You know who is extremely respectful of pronouns? Vet surgery staff. I went to pick up a corpse wrapped in a cotton bag. The staff, on the other hand, were definitely handing over a he/him.

Why do they call it a gender reveal that makes no sense. Babies can't have a gender.

Is this job hiring? Does anyone know? I think I would be good at this.

Anyone who has ever tried to advocate for a loved one in a health care setting knows that it’s normal to endure microaggressions from health care staff. It’s one of the dark sides of medicine no one wants to talk about. – at Savannah, GA

A fairly extreme option for if your home is dangerously cold (good for v cold weather blackouts, squatting or when in a survival hut): If you own a small tent, set it up inside your warmest room and if possible put everyone including pets inside it.

Do you have tips for staying warm? Esp tips that don't involve ordering new items (given nothing will arrive in the next few days)? How do you stay warm with what you have at your disposal? Any safety tips I missed? Stay safe. Stay cozy. And take care of each other. 💜/fin

- Practical shoes, particularly work boots & safety boots - Tent - I highly recommend a pair of old military 11x11s attached together for groups/warm weather and/or a hilleburg for 4 seasons/snow - Socks - I have never worn out a pair of Bridgedale socks, it might be impossible

- Buying shoes at a physical shopfront* with well trained shoe fitters. Especially if having the right sensory environment is important to you. It's important to me and I find having well fitted shoes makes a huge difference. *not recommended during global pandemics, obviously.

CW // Office worker, poised to judge answer as a difficult/not difficult admin task: what's the hardest thing you've ever done? Candidate: I was the first responder at a crash scene where both parents were killed so I had responsibility for the children until child services...
Replying to @humanworkplace
"what's the most difficult thing you've ever done" A company I used to work for had this on their standard interview form to "weed out people who think easy tasks are hard". They kept receiving discloses of extreme trauma events (often from disaster responders) so they stopped.

CW // They changed it to "what's the most difficult admin task you've ever done?" and very next candidate said "Organising my first husband and my son's joint funeral was quite challenging, especially because I was only 22."
