I’m on a business trip and forgot to bring a simple workout T-shirt. I found a Dicks Sporting goods store close to me, walked in and headed for the Nike athletic wear section. I picked it up and looked on the price tag….

A cheap, little polyester t-shirt that cost you around $5 for some 12 year old kid in Vietnam to make.
For context. I make a pretty good living. Money isn’t a huge concern for my wife and I.
I saw that price and asked the sales lady if it was a mistake. She said it wasn’t.
I walked out the door.

Not a Ralph Lauren Polo or some higher end brand.
Here’s the crazier part. I drove down the street to @Dillards and guess what the non discounted Ralph Lauren Polo T-shirt’s were? $55.

We need to recognize that parents are individuals with their own strengths, weaknesses, personalities.
The fun loving dad who throws a ball around with the kids and is high physical energy is great.
The philosophical dad who reads and thinks a lot and has amazing insight to share is great.
The detail oriented and dutiful dad who makes sure nice meals are provided, bedtime is observed, and kids get taught a long list of practical things is great.
The laid back and funny dad who makes everyone laugh and keeps their family from stressing out too much with fun trips or activities or jokes is great.
The nerd dad who can geek out on lots of topics with their kids and help them learn to tinker and think a certain way is great.
The simple pleasures dad who is a wife man, loves taking pictures of the kids, digging into lasagna, and plans a weekly family game night is great.
The brilliant dad who has passed on very unique genetics and is unlike other dads for better or worse, is great.
Assuming we're talking about a good man who cares for, loves, and protects his family, they're all great.
We have to stop wanting people to be one way or just like us. (What a horrifying prospect.)
