Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay. This year’s theme, "Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” reminds us of a fundamental principle: meaningful progress in mental health can be achieved only through close collaboration with people with lived experiences. As Ontario’s medical regulator, we recognize the importance of supporting the mental health of physicians and physician assistants so that health-care professionals can provide the best care to patients in Ontario. ℹ️ Visit our website for more information about programs and resources to help physicians and physician assistants facing mental health challenges: ow.ly/m1VB50ZSrmo #WMHD2026

CPSO continues to streamline registration pathways for Canadian and internationally-trained physicians! We’ve approved a new registration policy that enables physicians to be granted a provisional certificate of registration to practise independently in Ontario without completing the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) or holding the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC). This means that under the policy, Canadian- and internationally-trained physicians who are certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada are no longer required to challenge the MCCQE or hold the LMCC to register with CPSO. We’re undertaking a significant transformation to our policy framework to modernize how we set out obligations for professional practice and conduct. As part of this work, we’re replacing our suite of existing policies with four Professional Obligation documents. The framework will take effect in early November. We’ve also created accompanying Obligations in Practice documents that are intended to function as practical extensions of the professional obligations, setting out more detailed, topic-specific direction and expectations registrants will need to follow.
