She's been extraordinary. Meloni sees things clearly and states the truth plainly.

A Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Once again, no early warning from our partners. The main target was energy infrastructure, specifically CHPP-4. Unfortunately, it was hit. A residential building was also damaged, and rescuers are currently putting out a fire there. Our systems detected these missiles only when they were already virtually on approach to Kyiv. CHPP-4 is one of Kyiv’s key energy facilities.
According to our intelligence, the Russians are preparing further ballistic missile launches. The facts show that the Russians do not consider themselves bound by what the President of the United States said. Ukraine supported an energy ceasefire. Russia is targeting yet another power plant and the lives of our people.
And this is absolutely unjust: when they are destroying our energy infrastructure, and Ukraine is not even receiving early warnings about ballistic missile launches. It is important that the world does not stay silent about this. And it is important that the United States really see what is happening and who is responsible for this war continuing.
Please stay safe tonight and tomorrow. We are working to replenish our air defenses with anti-ballistic missiles.

I find it extraordinary the u-turns that so many commentators, professional or not, have made on Tuchel on the basis of last night.
Football fans have always been extraordinarily fickle, but if you were one of the ones commending his in-game substitutions, his use of the squad as a whole (despite key players being half-fit) and ability to elicit genuine world class performances out of Bellingham throughout and Kane in patches...
Then you CANNOT be calling for his sacking, on the basis of conceding 2 goals against the world champions from 85 minutes onwards.
Do you think it was a managerial instruction to drop deep, fail to retain the ball and invite pressure? Do you think that was his masterplan?
It's never solely on the manager, it's never solely on the players.

No doubt that Tuchel pulled the emergency brake too early, but people are acting as if Argentina are some two-bit team who were there for the taking. They are world champions, have regularly won tournaments under Scaloni and have the greatest player of all time. #WorldCup

Here’s Thierry Henry talking more sense about England’s World Cup mentality than some of the English media right now.
Bring back Sepp. A proper brown envelopesman. Make corruption classy again.
Red cards are not overturned by political phone calls. They are overturned by rules, evidence and independent bodies. If a U.S. President intervenes with the FIFA President — and a player is suddenly cleared before a World Cup knockout match — the question is unavoidable: Quo vadis, FIFA?
Football must never become a playground for political power. #FIFA #WorldCup #GianniInfantino #DonaldTrump

I am glad I am not a typical #England fan 🤯
You put expectations so high, analyse games on what it should be, not on what there is, you expect clear wins in World Cups if the rival is in theory 'inferior'... I thought Latins were the emotionally charged fans but you beat us for sure! 😉
#England have some of the best players around (Kane, Bellingham, shame Saka injury doesn't let him shine), structure, idea, right culture, all necessary to be successful
They will get better agains better sides

So England have:
- Topped their group
- Beaten the 11th ranked team
- kept clean sheets in two of the three games
And people are still moaning 😭

“England would crumble to a good team like Spain or Argentina.”
The same Spain that drew 0-0 with Cape Verde?
The same Argentina that lost to Saudi Arabia but still won the World Cup in ‘22?
It is so, so boring seeing all the negativity about at the moment.
So far England journos have leaked the line-up, the set piece takers, the focus on corners and where they’re standing. Croatia won’t have to watch any tape at this point, they’ll just wait for Sami Mokbel, Craig Hope and Henry Winter to tweet out the specifics and jobs done
England take leaf out of Arsenal playbook with focus on set-pieces in training ahead of Croatia. Declan Rice, Reece James and Bukayo Saka among designated dead ball specialists, though doubt remains over Saka’s fitness due to Achilles tendonitis issue. bbc.com/sport/football/artic…
