there is an extent to which parasocialism is acceptable i suppose. when you genuinely care about a character and develop empathy that’s great, encouraged even. but if you’re harming & harassing others bc of said character? you might want to rethink.

i dislike this narrative that parasocialism is inherently bad. coming to genuinely care for and love fictional characters is something we’ve all been doing long before there was this negative connotation around it. its why as a child you cried over characters, its why as an adult

i’m not talking about OP btw since i actually agree with the take. lots of fictional characters have saved lives! so i don’t see why it’s a bad thing. reading, relating to, and empathizing is supposed to make you a better person after all, not the other way around.
