New data from the Comptroller provides a clearer picture of who is using the state’s new voucher program: 🔔 70% of students awarded so far were previously enrolled in a private school or homeschool 📊 27% now come from Tier 3 families ❌️ >20k families have already opted out

We’ve seen the Wild West here in TX with charter chain organizations redirecting funding out of the classroom. To ensure proper use of TX tax dollars, the Legislature must look at charter schools funneling money to CMOs, including out-of-state for-profits. #txlege

Trump DOJ has challenged in-state tuition for Dreamers in 17 states, using the same playbook used to dismantle the TX Dream Act. For 20+ years, TX understood that investing in students strengthens our economy. MALC will continue fighting for TX Dreamers. royalexaminer.com/doj-target…

70% of Texas Voucher users were enrolled in private school in the 24-25 school year. From the start, this was a giveaway to folks who were already in private school and does even less for the 5.5 million public schools students that are guaranteed a FREE high quality education.

1 way for the #txlege to help schools: ➡️ Select realistic effective dates so that new requirements can be properly implemented. This training was due by 4/1, but was just released today. Thousands of trustees are now required to complete it by Sept.
🚨 The new 5 hour required trustee parental rights training was just released. SB 204 requires trustees to complete it by Sept. 1. Enroll here: register.tealearn.com/course… View the TAA here: tea.texas.gov/sites/default/… #txlege

Great piece on the importance of serving students with disabilities and developing their bilingual skills ⬇️ Brava especially to @Lizdeliap for her expertise and advocacy 👏 #bilingualism #education
“Having a disability shouldn’t prevent a student from developing bilingualism,” Piñón said. Schools must nurture our emergent bilingual students with disabilities. They deserve educators who are prepared to support the whole child. #BilingualTX edweek.org/teaching-learning…

BREAKING: We're suing Texas A&M over the university system’s unconstitutional censorship policy. Administrators are canceling or restricting courses that discuss race, gender, and sexual orientation. Public universities are meant for sharing knowledge — not banning it.

At a moment when immigration enforcement is creating fear and instability across our country, denying children access to education only makes matters worse. We will not accept extreme anti-immigration policies. #txlege

This TN report on their school voucher program shows why data on these programs is so important for us to know what students participate, where they go and how they are learning. The TX program needs stronger data reporting rules to provide this type of transparency.

As I was just prompted to fill out my parental permissions for my son's school so he can get a bandaid and join a club, per Texas #SB12, remember that schools must still support ALL students to succeed and thrive. Here's the @IDRAedu explainer:
